Oh my god. My left nipple has cracked.

I knew this was a hazard of breastfeeding but why now? I still have seven weeks to go before breastfeeding starts! It is a bit stingy now so I can't imagine how it will feel when a little baby is clamped to it.

Does anyone know how to cure it? And can I do it in seven weeks or is this... Mission Impossible!

Sorry dont have a clue I was very lucky and never got them BF just wanted to say how poop that must be especially before BF starts, sure someone who has had cracked nips will give you some tips

 You're a poet and you don't know it!! :moon:

Sorry CorrieFan, back to the topic in question! Vaseline is great for it and Vitamin E is great for things like that too  x

Do you know what you try and give some friendly support and all the literary critics come out of the woodworks :shakehead:   :D :moon: :moon:

A friend of mine with kids recommended that I get Kamilosan (you can get it from supermarkets in the baby area or chemists). I haven't needed to try it yet but she reckons it works very well.

Hiya, try lansinoh, its the cream that is reccommended for cracked nipples when breastfeeding. I had dry cracked nipples at 16 weeks for some reason and the MW suggested it and it worked a treat!! Its about 9.95 from the phamacy but is awesome and worth it!
:D

my nipples have been dry and cracked for ages? i just put moisturiser on after a bath. :?

My left one is a bit peely creaming helps a bit but it wont stop being peely.

Why does it happen?

believe me they get worse when you breastfeed BUT you must keep going it will get better they get hardened to it

both of the creams that have been mentioned i have tried both and they help brill also try vasaline.

I agree about the lansinoh cream, it is pretty expensive at £9.95, but its the only thing that worked for me when I was bf my son. Its really good stuff and defo worth the price tag, the cheaper creams just dont cut the mustard!

Hey
I also have cracked nipples and they are actually quite painful. Have you had any colostrum coming through yet? I have and think this is why nipples are cracked. Hope they get better soon!

Girls, thanks so much. Lanisoh is on my shopping list. Am doing a big Boots online shop today to get baby stuff (tripple points on all baby things) so will add to the list. In the meantime I'm going to smother poor nips with Body Shop Vitamin E nightcream.

I haven't had any colostrum leakage yet, and they aren't particularly dry, it looks to me like it is just because the nip has got bigger.

Cheers for all that, poems and all xx

Hmmm Boots Online doesn't recognise Lanisoh. Is it a prescription cream?

You can get Lansinoh from Mothercare - I'm surprised Boots don't do it.

Ah Ha! Thanks Bubaloo - I had just spelt it wrongly - Boots do indeed do it!
