Imogen has been on cow's milk since Friday night after turning 1 last Monday. couple of Qs ladies.

1. Her poo has become more solid and is very light yellow and very very smelly....(poo smell, nothing outrageous!) - is this normal???

2. She is drinking loooooadddds more than she used to drink formula. mind you she is only really just starting to get her appetite back with solids after being off them for about 2-3 weeks cos of the cold she had. we are trying to cut back a bit on the cow's milk so ensure she ups her intake of solids but the night before last she had 5oz at 7pm, then we topped her up at 11.00 she had 5oz then she woke at 5am and Oh fed her 5oz and then she screamed for more so he gave her another 5oz which she gulped down!!!

She only has a bottle during the day on waking, then at 3pm ish also. Other than that it's water. we did offer her 7oz but today we only offered 3oz in morning, then she had cereal (so more milk), and only offered 5oz at 3pm. We noticed she ate a bit more today.
Last night she was wide awake at 2am and gulped down 5oz.

growth spurt maybe??????? making up for lack of food last few weeks? maybe offer her follow on milk for a bit???

or should we be offering water during night and sticking to our guns of not offering milk so she gets her calories from food, not milk.

any advice dear friends??? thanx xx

I was always told by my health visitor that they should have approx a pint of dairy a day, but that has to include milk, yoghurt, cheese etc.

Personally I dont mind how much Arianna drinks of it as long as she is still eating healthy as milk is full of healthy fats and calcium.

If you are worried, try to offer her the water and see is she will take it instead

I don't measure how much milk DD has (a throwback to breastfeeding her I think, I've never got into the habit of measuring her milk intake) - she has it in a cup and I just give her a cupful morning and night, more if she gestures towards the fridge!

Like Sarah says, I wouldn't worry if she's drinking lots of milk, a good sign! Sometimes babies/toddlers prefer milk to solids - some days my daugher will drink loads of milk and water and eat very little, other times its more balanced or sometimes she won't drink much at all but eat lots. Try to relax about it, she'll take what she needs.

I hope this helps

thanks gals

We did not feed her milk last night - just popped dummy in and she slept again. :cheer: :cheer:

we are finding she is wanting food, but lots of different things in a sitting, e.g. breakfast is cereal and toast, then maybe a bit of banana....lunch, potato beans, then slice of bread, then yoghurt etc. hopefully she is getting her appetite back.

It's all guess work this parenting lark isn't it??? Don't know what I'd do without the forum!

Thanks Ladies. x x

Ps re the poo.... searched it on net and it said lighter poo with cows milk was normal. Phew! (and fueeeewwww too re smell!!! :D )
