I can't remember what I did about this the last time.

My cot has a sort of quilty thing (I think it may be called a cot bumper??) which ties to the sides at one end and goes round the "top" two corners. I assume its some kind of draught excluder? I have put it on at the end near the window for now but Fraser just using Moses basket just now anyway.

First - does anyone know if these are advised against or anything these days and second (if not advised against) which end (head or foot) is it for??

It was with all my cot bedding and stuff that I kept from DD but I really can't remember if I used it the last time or not. Or what end it was at...

Head end I believe. And it's to stop them bumping head on sides and I guess the drafts in a room lol I'm not actually entirely sure! It is indeed called a cot bumper. Lol. I have one in my cot but she's not in the cot yet. Xx

Lol - he'll need to grow about another three feet before he is any danger of bumping his head away up there!!

I have mine around her feet end as she's "feet to foot". Her head is way beyond the edge of the bumper. But if she bashes her arms around it hits bumper x

Mine is at the top for decoration but I will remove it and put it up to sell on eBay when she starts rolling more and crawling so she don't get caught up in it lol x

I was wondering about this myself, I have mine at the top, but zac has started moving right up the top of the cot in the morning when he wakes up and I'm scared he'll suffocate, but without it he will bang his head, is it safe to leave it there or should I take it off? X

I think one of the other 'dangers' is that if they press their head against it then they don't lose as much body heat as they normally would and so can overheat.
I have mine on for decoration at the mo cos Lizzie doesn't reach that high up yet. I might leave it on as she's got into the habit of poking her arms through the bars of her crib and I don't want her getting stuck when her arms get chubbier!

Another danger is my hv said some babies have fell asleep with their head pressed up/slightly behind it during the night when parents are asleep and suffocated

I tuck the bottom of mine into the sides of the matress so she cant get behind it, and make sure its tied tight, and the ties tucked out of range.

I'm removing mine tonight Chloe got stuck in the top of it this morning she rolls everywhere tho bless her x
