I think everyone is a little bit differant. With my first it was all in my back and just the tightings in the front. Some ladies say its like peirod pains and some say its shooting pains. Some times when i have a tightening i get period pains at the front and feel like i need a poo but i think it is the baby pressing down on the pressure points if you know what i mean. x
I maybe totally wrong though x
Mine were like severe tightening pain, felt like my stomach was a rock. You can feel them coming and I was just getting to the point where I thought I couldn't cope with the pain anymore and then they would go! I found being able to move around eased them more than sitting or lying on the bed.
i had the period pains and needin 2 poo the other day it lasted about 20minutes and i was crying in pain i was sweating hot didnt know what was going on lol! x
From my own personal experience I find they start off as a constant bad period pain but when they are in established labour they are more like really really painful cramps which reach a peak and then subsides for a bit then starts all over again.
Mine started off like killer period pains that sort of came over in waves lasting 30 seconds or so then stopping for for a few minutes before coming back. I found it quite painful from the start, my contractions started at midnight and after 2 hrs they were coming every 5 mins or less and continued to do so for 16 hrs!! I did need 'to go' if you know what I mean too. Apparently its natures way of clearing you out. Nice. I think at the very beginning of labour you are thinking "is this it?" If it is then you soon know about it! Get an epidural, thats my advice! I could have sworn by the end of it that the baby was coming out my arse. And I think i kept saying "i need a poo" and they were telling me "no, thats the baby coming". My God. Saying that, my sis in law had her daughter in about 20 mins start to finish. How unfair.
From my experience it started as period pains, which turned into severe cramps.
The 'needing to poo' didn't happen until second stage when I was fully dilated and ready to push - then I felt an overwhelming urge to push and that did feel like the urge to poo.
I guess everyone's different and I have no idea what to expect this time around!!
Just posted this elsewhere but though it a very positive read, sometimes we forget that we're perfectly made to give birth, obviously there are special circumstances where medical intervention is needed
"How the Uterus Works During Labor
During labor, your uterus will undergo radical changes to transform itself from a baby-holding organ into a baby-ejecting one. Its muscle fibers will draw upward using waves of contractions, as many as 300 for first-time moms, and 100 less for moms with experienced wombs.
One big misconception about birth is that it consists mostly of a woman "pushing" her baby out. But, in reality, it's the uterus that does most of the work of labor and delivery.
A contraction will start, then rest a minute, or so, then contract again. The muscle work of the uterus gets increasingly more coordinated and stronger as labor progresses.
Even mothers who are in a coma or have serious heart conditions that prevent them from pushing, thanks to their uteruses, are able to easily give birth. Sometimes, amazingly, their bodies accomplish the task even more efficiently than women who struggle and push to try to get their babies out. It appears that sometimes bodies, especially the bodies of women in labor, work better when their owners just relax and trust."
For me it was like period type cramps but very very bad , but near the end i cant really remember how it felt was in my own little world i think.
Hard to say what it feels like unless youve been through it
