Confusion over progression...

Hi all,

I need a little advice as I am a little confused over my dates...

So my last period was 3/10 and I got my first Positive test result on 30th October (and more over the next couple of days)

I had a scan on the 17/11 where only the pg could be seen but nothing else (I tested again a few days later and results were still positive)

I went back for a second scan last Friday (27/11), the pg has progressed and they could see a small embryo but they sized it at 6 weeks. I thought I was 7+6! Could I seriously have got positive tests so early on in the pregnancy?
Has anyone else been / going through something similar?

Symptom wise, I am knackered and have sore boobs - I can get nauseous if I don't eat enough or eat to late in the evening, but nothing serious.

I have another scan on Monday where I seriously hope we can see a heartbeat, the last two scans we have only been able to see stills after they were finished, rather than 'live'

Some babies are slow starters and they catch up later :) x

Not only that but I read that not all ultrasound machines are as good as each other or use the same frequency.

If it's not as sensitive it might not pick it up as well.

If you're really worried you could see if the EPU will do bloods to check the hcg is good & doubling as it should. Otherwise just try to stay calm and wait for a scan in a few weeks when more can be seen.

There is a margin of error in the scan dates this early of about 5-7 days. Baby measures so small at this stage that a tiny error in the measurement can cause a big difference in the date they give you. It's good news that there has been progress. Did you see a heartbeat? Good luck for your next scan.

My baby measured 5+6 when I thought I should've been 7 weeks, and caught up by 13 weeks. Not all early scans are accurate - try not to worry too much about it. Great news you saw an embryo in the first place!

Oooohhh, I have had this very same situation. So the first day of my last period was 16th of October and I got my first BFP on Friday 13th November.

When we went to get a scan they said I was much earlier than 5 weeks, but my HCG levels were correct for a 5 week pregnancy??

It has turned out to be twins and they reckon that's why my HCG is higher.

But, they have put me in for an 8 week scan on the 21st December. but according to my dates I will actually be 9 +3 weeks??

It's all a bit weird xxxx

I was dated 5 weeks at my scan two weeks ago went today and I'm 8+2 so it's hard to date that early

Thank you all for your replies, makes me feel much better :)

I went to the EPU for my second scan, but they didn't mention anything about doing bloods - if things are still not right on Monday when I go back for scan 3 I will ask for the blood tests to be done.

I like to know/understand exactly what is going on in my life, so this not knowing is doing my head in!

Similar happened to me today, what was your cycle length before you fell pregnant?
I was supposed to be 7+4 today but they couldn't date because of how early i am - they said 6+ weeks.. I asked my consultant if i should be worried and he said it depends on your cycle length and when you ov.. Because my cycle length was 32 days he said I'd usually ov around cd18. If you do the due date calc on the nhs website it might give you a better idea. I edited mine and even though it's 6+5 if you break it down from what it says, the nhs website only says 6+ weeks xxx

He also said that he wouldn't worry even if my cycle length was 28 (which is what they generally base it on). If you ovulated late or implanted late it could be an extra few days xxx

I'm very similar to you... First day of last period was 18th oct and got bfp on 23rd Nov. Had a scan Monday which showed 2 sacks and mw said I was between 5-6 weeks but Defo not more than 6. Unfortunately they think I have a failing twin and I've got a rescan on 10th Dec. How did your scan go mrsrogers? X

Thanks Lou, my last cycle was about 32 days, but before that was pretty much always 28 days on the dot.
Maybe I ovulated late.
I think I will feel a lot happier when I have heard a heart beat, fingers crossed for Monday.

I was put back at my 7 week scan by a week too I think it is quite normal, the midwife said I probably ovulated late or else I might catch up by my next scan. Good luck for Monday x

Thank you all for your support.

Scan today didn't go well :(
Pregnancy has not progressed as it should, there is no heartbeat, and the foetal pole had decreased in size over the last 10 days - been told a miscarriage is almost certain :( I have to go back on the 16th for another scan if nothing has happened by then - I just want it to be over now.

I am so sorry to read this, look after yourself and I hope this is over quickly for you xx
