Hi, i have been lurking in this forum throughout my pregnancy and it has been a huge help!

I went to see my MW on tues and she said baby is 2/5 engaged and it could be any day now (though i very much doubt it! lol) i am 39 wks + 1 day.
she made another appointment for me to see her on tuesday when i will be 39wks + 5, if baby hasnt arrived and she will then book me in for a sweep!

this may sound stupid but isn't that a bit eager? i thought i could go 2 weeks overdue? i'm not sure i want a sweep, my OH keeps telling baby to come out so i dont have to have one but the thought of her coming out scares me to as i know nothing about babies! (i know she has to come at some point!) i dont even have my hospital bag packed, a job for today i think!

sorry for rambling on!

you dont have to agree to a sweep, if you would rather wait a week then do, the only thing i will say is it doesnt always do anything and if it does it could be a few days before it does or may take a couple of goes.
Good luck either way

I was offered a sweep at 40+1 but turned it down. I didn't feel ready (and in a selfish way, it was my uncle's birthday the day after, and my dad's birthday the day after that and I wanted her to have her own birthday unless she chose otherwise).

Midwife is meant to be coming round today to do a sweep (40+5) which I will agree to (if she turns up).

Hun if you want to see if nature takes its course then refuse the sweep.

I wasnt offered a sweep (she came early) but would have refused one anyways! I dont like the thought of them! lol And I dont think they work too well either!

it sounds like you are meeting her weekly so if at the next appointment (39+5) she books you for a sweep that would be 40+5.

It is your choice whether you have a sweep and the midwife shouldn't put you under any pressure.

If it looks like you are going to be late (probable with a first baby) you will possibly also be booked for an induction. The reason they do that is so that you have a slot waiting for you if you need it. I had a panic when DD was 4 or 5 days old (she was 10 days late) as I realised my induction was due in 15 mins and I hadn't asked if I should cancel it :rotfl: They cancel it for you, you don't need to get in touch with anyone.

ETA: I think they like to try a sweep a while before induction as it is a more natural. I know it's not natural but I'm not sure how to phrase it at the moment  So usually you are offered a sweep a week before being offered an induction.
