Okay so my baby is 5 days old and I am very much over producing milk it literally runs out of me all day! Both boobs are also so full and hard constantly even though he feeds regularly.

The midwife recommended buying a pump and expressing to take away the excess as it's so painful but breast feeding nurse said not to as my body will just try and produce even more!!

What's your opinion?

Thanks ladies x

I had this problem. If you get a pump and express off the extra you'll end up with oversupply and will always be leaking and engorged. I know how painful it is but hand expressing a little out in the shower or something to take a bit of the pressure off is going to help you more in the long run. Big hugs, it does get easier. At 3m I don't even feel full any more (but still make plenty of milk) xx

I wouldn't express either as your body will think it needs more.

It still early days though and it will settle down Hun x

Please excuse any typos from my fat fingers!
Tapatalk madness!

I would only express if you want to start building up a supply for the freezer, it won't help with the over producing BUT you can stockpile a lot of milk?

Otherwise I'd just do what Sally suggests and have a little hand express every now and then

As the ladies have said expressing will just produce more milk. I would hand express with a warm flannel to relieve any pain and then a cold flannel to soothe. Xx

Ah fantastic thank you so much girls! I couldn't latch him on last night as the boob was that big the nipple was flat!

You're awesome :-D x

Yeah when you're super engorged they can find it difficult to latch. Just hand express a bit off first and your LO should find it easier xx

I agree as if you express your body will produce more! Xxx

I would just carry I feeding your baby on cue, and it will settle down soon.
Agree, that if you express too much it can increase supply more.
Your midwife may have been talking about expressing just enough to be comfortable, but that is usually when you are engorged.
