i guys,

for those of you who's babies suffer with Coilc, how do you deal with it?

Coby has had mild Coilc when he was a baby so we brought anti colic bottles. after a couple of weeks he seemed fine so we put him back on normal bottles (plus we had trouble with the anti colic bottles leaking)

but now i think he has it again, he has just screamed for an hour soild, and i mean really screamed, it was horrible.

one half of me was upset that i couldnt help him, the other half was getting frustrated at teh crying, i had to put him down and walk away for 2 mins at one point, felt so bad :(

how do you deal with it, what do you do? any advice or tips would be great.

is it worth buying more anti colic bottles, do they really work?

xx

Hi Hun,

Just what i've heard from my cousin, her baby had colic really bad from 6-11pm every night.

Ring your doctor and ask them to prescribe COLEAF. yu can only get it on prescription. i got some when Amy was little cos she had really bad wind problems.

Hope this helps

Are you using Infacol or Gripe Water?
Phoebe was diagnosed with Colic when she was nearly 2weeks old. I chose to try Infacol before getting any prescribed medication and luckily for me it worked a treat (after a week). Funnily enough I tried to wean Phoebe off it again today but by the 3rd bottle with out it she was screaming so she will stay on it until we wean her. I think Phoebes is just bad wind now though because apparantly they grow out of Colic by 3mths.
I know exactly how you feel and I couldn't cope with in either.
Also looking at the time of your post, Coby is crying early evening rather than the usual late evening which just makes it even harder for you because I guess you are trying to deal with the other children too.
Hang in there Honey xxx

yep, useing Infacol and Gripe Water.

he is calm mow, hes had a bottle and is finaly asleep!

that was sooo hard, i havent had to deal with anything like that ever, i have had the whingeing mild colic but not full blow screaming like that, ethan got a mouth full off me eariler coz i was so stressed out, i fell so bad, i will have to make it up ro him tomorrow :(

Infacol did not work for me but my midwife recommended colief you can buy it from boots, i tried other pharmacies but they did not have it. Jessica is alot better now. You put 2 drps in the bottle 4 hors before a feed, it contains lactose that does something to the milk and makes it easier to digest. Its expensive at £9.95 for a tiny bottle but well worth it. I asked my healt visitor if i could get it on prescription as i will keep using it untill Jess is 3 months but she said the doctors now will not give prescriptions for colic remedies.

I definately recommend you take a trip to boots.

I don't understand how you can prepare a feed 4 hours early if you use formula? I thought it had to be prepared just at the time of the feed, otherwise it would go bad!!!

Also, I always warm up the water before I put the powder, so I am not sure how it would work! :?:

Anyway, Layla, if you want to give it a try (it wn't do any harm, anyway!), we give Maheen some fennel tea, that we make ourselves. Fennel helps with digestion. we put some fennel seeds in boiling water with 2 leaves of mint (good for digestion as well), and one cardamon. It seems to help our little girl, who is suffering from colic from day one! and they say it can last till they are 4 months!!!!!

I know exactly how you feel about the screaming, it made me cry 2 days ago, because there is nothing you can do! it was a mixture of frustration that I can't help my baby and at the same time, tiredness coz she had been screaming for the whole night and I could not cope with it anymore!!!
I can see her little body becoming hard all over and she tries to push, and she becomes red!!!!! I am gonna take her to an osteopath, they can do wonders about digestion and sleeping problems!

for the tea, you can look at this link...there are ready-made ones available on the market! :)

hope this helps.

and for the help osteopaths can give, I found that:

A note about Cranio Sacral therapy
Craniosacral therapy is an ideal therapy for newborn babies and their mothers. By making very subtle adjustments, the therapist may treat any imbalances resulting from the traumatic experience of birth. It can help many common problems such as unexplained crying, colic, digestion problems and breastfeeding problems. It is invaluable for helping babies to settle into life outside the womb.

I have to say, I have been suffering from quite severe back problem, (to a point where I was almost paralysed on my left side), and this therapy has worked really well on me. My osteopath could get me rid of a headache and pains in my neck and back in one session! :D
I really trust this stuff!

Mel, you can make a whole batch of bottles up and keep them in the fridge.

I make 6 bottles up every evening with warm water, then once they are cooled you keep them in the fridge.

as long as once they have been re heated they are used within an hour its fine, also you must use all 6 within 24 hours.

Coby woke up not long after my last post last night, and he was as happy as anything! it was so weired knowing he was screaming half an hour before. is that normal for colic? is was like nothing had happend!

all rigtttttttttttt!!!! thanks for the explanation, Layla!!!

I was probably making my life a ittle bit harder with my one bottle!!!
It's because I steralise my bottle with microvawe avent, and they say tht they should be used within 3 to 4 hours, so obviously, did not think I could prepare bottles for 24 hours!!!!!

I am glad Coby is feeling better! yea, sometimes, Maheen will be in pain for one or two hours, and then, she will sleep and when she wakes up next, she is all fine!!
digestion finished, probably! :?

Coby has been screaming on and off all day, i dont know what to do with him :(

have u tried taking him for a walk? or a ride if you have a car?

sorry can't help more, I have noticed that Maheen loves that and usually falls asleep...she is in her bouncer at the moment, with vibration, and she seems to enjoy that as well...it must move things inside :?

Hope Coby settles!
