Hi I'm looking to get my 6 month old christened, has anyone else had their lo christened, how did you go about it? And were they quite strict? Like did you have to have gone recently to church etc ? X

We had LO baptised as I'm catholic and do go to church. If it's a Catholic Church you have to attend "preparation classes" - ours were the 3 Sundays before the christening after mass for half an hour but varies from church to church. Not sure what the Church of England policy is, although I think you'd be expected to attend church. The best thing to do is go to church one weekend and speak to the priest or vicar afterwards.

depends on your local vicar

I'd urge you contact them - x

My daughter was baptised catholic as she asked for it aged 9 as she went to a Catholics school. I didn't have to do any classes at all but we did for her communion xxx

Our LO was christened at 2 months old into Catholic Church... I go every week so I didn't have to change anything but if you didn't go you had to show you would show church commitment beforehand. I attended a christening course when I was still pregnant.

We have to go to 2 evening prep classes and provide baptism certificates of parents and God parents along with baby's birth certificate. They do it on every 2nd Sat of the month. That's my local Catholic Church.

My old church just asked you to attend one 15 min prep class and you could choose your date so long as it was at the weekend.

So all depends on your church really.x

At my local church you either have to live in tbethe parish or have a family connection with it. Think a lot of churches are quite laid back about it now.

Same as mellie_88, we just had to be in the parish or have a family connection. I was so pleased as I desperately wanted my daughter christened. I'm Catholic, but not practicing and my OH isn't baptised. We would have had difficultly getting her christened in a Catholic Church, plus my OH wasn't keen on the idea and preferred her to be C of E. Our local church is high C of E and so suited both of us perfectly.
