Hi Everyone,
We have good friends who are having their little boy christened this Sunday. He is their second son and they have everything they could possibly need ever! Any ideas for a creative but not too expensive christening gift?
Thanks!

You could buy a silver plated piggy bank, John Lewis do nice ones and get it engraved with the baby's name and dob/date of christening? Or a personalised baby blanket? You can get them online from lotsa different websites. There is a nice website called my 1st years that do nice personalised gifts x

I was going to suggest something traditional like a first tooth box or first curl box, silver spoon, christening certificate holder etc. Most jewellers should stock those kinda things! Both me and my sister have silver piggy banks (hers is a shoe and mine is a teddy bear) that were given to us when we were christened.

For something a bit more modern and funky I'd def recommend checking out notonthehighstreet.com - they have some really cool, unique gifts and you should be able to find something lovely within your budget!

Go on notonthehighstreet.com & search christening gifts. I got a nice silver ark money box engraved & in a lovely gift box for £20 & a silver engraved photo frame, again in a lovely box for £20 x

Have a star named after baby, not too expensive xx

Noooo

Don't buy a money box or anything like that

Everyone always does and every christening it's painful to see 3 money boxes or a birth certificate holder or something silly

Instead why don't you do what I do - I approach them and ask if here's anything they would like - or need for baby- these days most parents open a savings account and then request cheques etc

Goes towards their future - I'd leave the sentimental silver stuff for family :)

I put a ban on silver stuff.
What about a nice plate set they can grow with x

I think this wee boy will have engraved silverware coming out of his ears!
They are good friends so we asked what they needed, nothing was the reply. But I can't just not give anything. So after a hunt around I found a few nice framed personalised alphabets. Totally useless but a nice thought. I'll print the text and got a lovely plain frame from Tesco. I'll post the original site and a pic of my own version when I get on my laptop later.
Thanks for sharing ideas!

A star is a nice idea. I bought a porcelin dinner set for my nephew. Sounds naff but it was expencive and had a lovely box to keep them in. He was one when he got christened tho

Well the silver wear I have was well received & if I were to have my son christened the gifts I gave would've been gratefully received! Something that can be kept forever & mean something is best IMO. Although until I have my lb I hadn't been within a 5 mile radius of a baby or anyone that had one so maybe I'm out of touch! X

Thing is when our friends are saying they don't need anything, and I know for sure he'll get lots of silver and money. I want our gift to be a small token and something a bit more unique. Which is why I've go e with the picture.

You could also think of pearl christening bracelets with charms. It is a cute and the awful christening gift.

How old is he? I think the best christening present my daughter got was Clark's vouchers. Went towards her first shoes.

People keep asking me what I want for my sons christening & to be honest he has everything he could possibly need & im not one for having lots of "trinket" style gifts like the ones mentioned here but that's down to personal taste & also because I am terribly fussy ;) I've just said that having the company of my loved ones being present is enough for me but no doubt people will get him something & it will be gratefully received. If I was to ask for anything then I would ask for a small token of money to go into his savings account but again I wouldn't insist on this at all I am far from that sort of person I am totally humbled & greatful for anything we receive

Hey,

Yeah agreed, christening gifts can be tricky... I always suggest going with something parents and child are definitely going to use... Clothes are always good as even if they're a bit too big.. they'll definitely grow into them... Marks and Spencer actually have a section specifically for baby showers which are full of toys and teddy's if you want to go that route here's the link. If anyones looking for a christening dress I managed to get a really lovely one from Lily Heritage. In terms of gifts though they don't really have much... in any case it's really the thought that counts... I'm sure the parents will appreciate the effort regardless of what you decide!! ;)

I know this thread is a bit old but might help someone later... I think these personalised papercuts could do
