My poor poor girl is really suffering. It started in her nappy area and has spread, however it is particularly horrendous in her nappy area. She is yelping in pain. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. So far she has had a cool, oat meal bath, calpol, piriton, sudacrem on her nappy area and poxclin on her body. She is also scratching her scalp as she has spots there too and not sure how to help her. I feel so useless :-(

When my son had it we did oatmeal baths, piriton and calamine lotion.

He didn't seem to suffer too badly but he did get a spot on his eyebal!!

Hope your little one is better soon.

Thanks. Ouch - on the eyeball sounds awful.

Her bottom is just horrendous to look at and horrendous for her to cope with. There isn't spare part that isn't blistered :-(

Worth a trip to the doc as they may have got infected if she's in pain-she may need antibiotics x

Yup. She can't sleep now either just saying 'owww' over and over :-( A GP is due to give me a call back soon.

Awful. The doctor said to just see it out. But it is unbearable to see her this way. Her bottom is awful AWFUL. She is not settling for sleep and have thrown everything I possibly can at her and nothing seems to settle her down. It has been three hours now... in another hour it'll be another course of calpol and piriton (which did nothing as, well she hasn't settled or calmed). It is horrible to see her this way... to top it off my husband has no empathy, if he can't feel it then he doesn't get it, so I am battling her on my own. Just devastated. Awful, horrid virus.

No advice - both of mine have yet to have the dreaded pox - but just wanted to send lots of sympathy your way! Hope she is on the mend very soon!

DO NOT JUST RIDE IT OUT!!! I'm so fed up with doctors not taking these viruses seriously, they can turn into secondary infections at any point and that can lead to serious problems. I had my son vaccinated against chicken pox because of this. Get a second opinion asap. She shouldn't be suffering this much for this long.

Hi rooster my little girl got it at ten months. For her it was just Calpol and calamine and she really wasn't that bothered by them, unfortunately I think the older they are when they get it the worse they suffer. If you haven't tried calamine then definitely do. Also I'm assuming you know not to give Nurofen/ibuprofen. That's awful that your OH doesnt empathise! Mine would be in tears if she was in pain; he can't bear to see her suffer, although he has very little empathy when it comes to me if I'm in pain so it must be a man thing! X

I agree with you completely. She is coping just about during the day. But at night, on her own she understandably struggles. I'm keeping an eye on her as her eye starting weeping pus a little just before I attempted bedtime. Not having her infected and her bottom is seriously, seriously bad. I can not emphasise how awful it is - luckily I think it might be starting to dry in that area. She has been naked for most of today and put in a cold paddling pool. Really though, this pain is unacceptable and I agree, she shouldn't have to be 'riding it out'. I get that in most cases Chicken Pox isn't too serious, but it should be taken case by case. My son had it two weeks ago (his fault!) and was no where near as bad.

Oh your poor little girl. What an annoying gp, did he even look at her? I had it really bad when i was 4, I started wheezing and it turned out they had spread to my lungs so I had stay in hospital for a week.
So make sure if there are signs of infections or her breathing changes to get her seen asap. I hope she's already loads better.xx
