hi when i had Alice i was all set to bf but my milk didn't come through for 4 days and then she wouldn't take the boob. i tried expressing but couldn't keep up my supply. i want to try again this time has anyone ever had it where the second time you get your milk as normal? i have some issues from last time leaving her without food... she went 9 hours and they laid her screaming naked on me etc so if it happens this time Im worried they will bring back the feeling of failing her again like the first time. sorry if that doesn't make scence xx

Hi hun, my milk came on day 4, its normal. Before you get colostrum ( or supposed to). You can always cup/syringe feed if the baby is in distress so they dont get confused with the teats/breast in the beginning.
I had to give my son a top up before my milk came in after 8 hours on the breast, it can be distressing.

My milk came in on day three which is perfectly normal it can take up to seven days I think??

I had to hand express colostrum and syringe feed. Turned out C had Tounge tie and we battled with latching on xx

My milk didn't come in till late on day 3, Aaron didn't have anything for 24 hrs, then the next day just little scoops of colostrum. They knew I wanted to bf so they kept an eye on his blood sugars and he was fine.

i didn't get any colosum until day four so couldn't feed her that they just said she needed formula until i got something. cheers for the advice though.

Sorry hun, didn't realise that you didn't have colostrum either. I dunno about chances of not getting it soon enough next time.

Could you request to syringe feed or cup feed until your milk comes in next time so that you still have the opportunity to bf? Or you can get those feeding bottles that go next to the breast that woman who express use?

Then while waiting, when baby isn't screaming for food - put them on the breast - that should stimulate your milk coming in iykwim.

I had to constantly massage my boobs to get my colostrum to come in on day 2

Maybe being more prepared this time may give you a better chance?

Yeh i think i have a bit more about me now ifykwim, with Alice i was shocked and tired and didn't know what to do for the best so just listened to them, Alice would suck but for 1 minute and then scream because there was nothing there at all, and really i got no support no one even came the next day to try again or anything they just left me and i didnt have a syringe or anything so just used the bottle. I didnt know any better and just assumed when my colosum or milk came in that she would switch but she wouldn't. I had major feelings of failure over it all like my body let me down but thinking back i bet with the right advice i could have syringe fed formula until day four.

I was just curious if anyone else had this the first time but got the colosum fine the second? I might pack my own syringe etc incase because i know how crap the hospital are! x

Edit- i did use tommee tippee closer to nature ones anyway but it didnt help the mw said because she had got used to the fast flow of the bottle and not having to really work for it not just the teat :S x

When I was in hospital I had to keep asking and asking for help ... One midwife came in when I asked and handed me a book on bfing!

You really have to push for help and not let them ignore you

Remember once bubs is here lots and lots of massage! X

Please excuse any typos from my fat fingers!
Tapatalk madness!

I had to ask for help too and mws in post labour ward were useless tbh. I did get one lovely person the next day who came in with a syringe to help me hand express as lo wasnt feeding after screaming for food all night long.
The thing with teats is that they use different muscles to suck and its easier so you would be better with a syringe or a cup. When i got home, i would express in a teaspoon and give it to.him.
I.guess nobody can tell you what will happen next time.
I had supply issues too and have no idea if its going to be the same but this time i am researching beforehand. I will also keep NCT breastfeeding consultant's number close and wont them them brush me off. Postnatal care i had was non-existant

Tapatalking so cant see signatures

In the first few days they don't feed much anyway. My milk came in day 4. Even if you have no milk keep latching baby on xx

thanks ladies Im hoping this time i will know what to do more as last time i just assumed it would naturally happen. Fx i get something natural from me i can feed her this time. even if i struggle at least i have the chance to give it a good go then! x
