Hi all! I've floated around the forum for the last year but haven't really posted much until now... Been referred for tests etc. now that we've been trying for a year, but my doctor is pretty convinced she knows what the problem is without testing.
About a year and a half ago, I was referred to the Colposcopy Clinic to have a polyp removed from my cervix but they decided not to remove it because it wasn't causing me any pain. I asked whether it would prevent me having children because it is RIGHT on the edge of the cervical opening and the Gynaecologist said "No it shouldn't - the sperm will find their way around it."
Brilliant.
Fast forward to now, a year of unsuccessful trying, and I went back to the doctor. She examined me and said that although a polyp there wouldn't normally interfere with 'sperm transit', she thinks that mine is doing so because of the size and location.
Basically (sorry for TMI), she described it as a trapdoor right over the cervical opening - completely covered. The polyp is movable, but its natural resting position is covering the opening.
Although she isn't a fertility specialist, she's pretty sure that there is no way the sperm is making its way around that, so isn't even getting to the stage where it could fertilise anything.
She then looked at the notes from the Colposcopy Clinic and they explained that the reason they didn't want to remove it is because it is so 'broad based' that to remove it, they'd have to take some of my cervix with it, which could then prevent me carrying a baby because it might prevent the cervix from closing/forming the mucus plug correctly.
Anyway... I was just wondering whether anyone else had experienced something like this? What kind of options might there be? If they can't remove it because it would stop me having children, it'll always get in the way... I can't see me being able to conceive naturally with it in place - would IUI be an option do you think?
