Hi All
I was just wondering if anyone can shed any light for me. A few weeks ago I was getting a numb tingly sensation in my wedding ring finger. When I googled the exact position of the numbness it appeared to be what is known as carpal syndrome. I didn't get too panicked as it seemed to be only a temporary thing that went away after a few days.

For about a week or so now I have noticed that the right side of my big toe on my left foot is also numb! Thankfully this isn't too annoying simply because of where exactly the sensation is positioned.

Unfortunately for the last few nights I have been wakened with the same tingly/ numb sensation in my hands. If my wrists are bent at all they go numb - it almost feels like the blood circulation is not going to my hands and a wee bit up my arms.

Has anyone else had this - do you know of anything I can do to avoid/ erase it?

I have been told this may also be the first signs of fluid gathering - what do you think? I am going to see how it is over weekend and attend doctor on Monday if it has not improved but am keen to see if it is a common problem or just lil ole me who has it!

I had carpal tunnel syndrome with my first baby (not with 2nd and touch wood nothing with this one), didn't retain fluid it was just one of those things. It went a few weeks after baby was born. If it is carpal tunnel you'll get numbness in your thunb, index finger, middle finger, and one side of your ring finger as the nerve that supplies these fingers goes through a tunnel of carpal bones in your wrists, fluid in here can squeeze the nerve causing numbness. It can't be avoided I am afraid, but sleeping with your hands straight helps and if it gets bad you can get supports to wear. I had it quite bad, struggled gripping but it did just go of its own accord after the birth. Can't comment on the numbness in your feet but I do get restless leg syndrome.

I agree with yorksmumy had it in my last pregnancy they say to try and not lie on your hands at night like when u hug your pillow if your like me !!!! mine also went after had baby. didnt have it too bad though xxx

thanks Yorksmummy, yes I am convinced it is carpal tunnel syndrome. I will see how I get on over weekend, am hoping it is not actually here to stay but time will tell!

I have a friend who also has restless leg syndrome - sounds genuinely awful too! She found that doing yoga helped hers a bit so mayb you should try it too if its really bad x

Lewisca, I am finding it hard enough not to be sleeping in my favourite position of being on my stomach! Now I have to find a new place for my hands lol I must admit though that I do tend to bend my wrists a lot as I curl my hands which is no doubt what is actually causing the problem! Hmmm not sure where I can put them that can still be deemed ccomfortable!

I don't think I have too bad yet to be making a trip to doctor but if I keep wakening 4 times a night then it will be the tiredness that makes me go and get it seen to. Fingers crossed it was just a wee temporary visit!

sounds like your favorite sleeping positions r the same as mine !!! I'm still managing to sleep on my tummy but dont think ill get away with it for much longer !! and cant stop hugging my pillow so if get carpal tunell again im just going to have to put up with it so i get some sleep !!!! oh the joys !!:rotfl:xx

morning all, well I think I have to admit defeat. I moved my leg this morn and got the tingly sensation around my knee! So I assume the fluid is starting to build up and will be here with a vengence very soon :(

I suppose one thing to be grateful for is that it will disappear fairly quickly after baby is born :)
