Decided to have a look at Travel Systems today and had set our heart on getting this one so went to check it out in store this afternoon http://www.mothercare.com/gp/product/B0 ... 1&mcb=core

However, totally confused now as after the girl in the store took the car seat out to test in our car (An escort). Can't be fitted without the base as the seatbelt is not quite long enough, and can't be fitted with the base as the plastic bit the seatbelt clips into touches the base which isn't allowed apparently?

Totally confused now, surely with all seatbelts the plastic bits going to come in contact with the base :?

Anyone else had this problem? Do we just have to get her to test and try all the car seats until we find one that fits?

It must be that some seats are wider than others - or at least that the seatbelt is further apart.

If the seatbelt touches the seat there is a risk of buckle crunch - basically that it will undo in a crash.

Good luck!

With infant carriers and car seats, yes, thats pretty much the case regard fitting. It may well mean its not the one that comes with your travel system because of poor fitting. Be prepared for that.

We set our heart on the Jane Slalom Pro but the infant carrier would not fit our car (not enough of the base of the carrier came into contact with the seat) and we tried almost every other one available. None fitted.

In the end we got a Britax 0-4 car seat and he's been in it since birth. As we had planned anyways we don't travel far at all with him in these first few months so its been fine. We'd have done the same if we had an infant carrier also. So in a way I'm glad we saved ourselves £100 and skipped the carrier.

We still got the travel system we wanted though :) That was never in doubt, just a case of finding a car seat that fitted. Can you not get a different carrier and leave it off the travel system you like? OK so it won't fit the pushchair but it will fit the car. And LO will have a pram to go in in the early months if its a travel system, so it should be fine.

Thanks for the advice girls, very useful! Had no idea it would be so complicated, thought car seats were pretty much universal. Think we'll wait a while in case we change the car before October!
