Hi girls,

We we're given this car seat by a friend - but we're not sure how the clip on the back of it is supposed to work? I'm wondering if a bit is missing? I've asked our friend and they can't remember (they last used it about 3 years ago!)

Here's some pics, its the clip at the back where is says '1 - press, 2 - slide' obv. the seatbelt goes into it, but can't work out what is supposed to press and slide into it? (last few photos are blurred - tried to get the camera as close as poss)

Anyone got any advice, as to what is supposed to push & slide?

Do you push in 1, then the seat belt should slip down, then when you let go of 1 it traps the belt. Then getting it out you push 1 in again and slide out the belt? I couldn't work it out without having a look in person. But the seat looks familiar so i don't think anything is missing.

I'd agree with that.

The car seat we bought wouldn't fit in the car with just seat belt - belt was about an inch too short! We thought we were doing something wrong but we went back to he shop we bought it from and it was just too short and ended up having to buy the stand for it!

Thanks for your replies girls, I fiddled and fiddled with it, the seat belt just slips into the clip thing, but the slide and push function just doesn't do anything, the seat belt sits below the 'slide/push' plastic bits and I can't get it to lock or whatever its supposed to do.

I've never used a car seat before, do they have to be locked in at the back or is it ok for the seatbelt to just sit in that clip thing (not that it clips but can't think of a better word for it) ie not fixed in but sits in it and pulled tightly to secure seat.

Do as you did, the bit that goes over your lap normally goes over the baby as i were, hooks in each side, then just pull it tight. Maybe the blue bit is for a base. You'd use it to unclip for the base then instead of fiddling with the seatbelt.

It has to be fitted properly or else its useless in any impact. The seatbelt needs to feed round the back in the holders and clip into the socket in the seat of the car. Doing anything else is dangerous.

if it does not fit you really should look at getting a new car seat.

My car seat doesn't clip in at the back, you just feed the seat belt through the groove (bad explanation!) but certainly no moving bits!

Lisa's suggestion sounds very probably, that the push and slide bits are for a base or even maybe a travel system...?

If you have any doubts though or the car seat doesn't feel very secure I would definitely try and get a new one that you know will fit and be secure though. It doesn't have to be an accident - sharp braking with a badly fitted car seat can do a lot of damage too. :(

i have that carseat you are doing it wrong we did the first time lol
you have to push in the push bit and lift up the slide bit ionto the push button iykwim,
then slide the seatbelt behiind the buttons (behind the blue bit) so the seat belt is inbetween the blue bit with the buttons on and the back of the seat
if you understand wehat im saying when you let go of the buttons the seatbelt will stay there :)
if you need more help i can take photos of mine using sumthing as a seatbelt to demonstrate as i dont have a car to show you
xx

Ahh, there you go! Good guessing game, but we got it wrong! Lol
All safe now!
