Hiya.. not sure if this is right place. Just a question really. I have a car seat for Jack in my car which is fine cos it's forward facing and rear facing.. I have another one that he can be in until he hits 28.66lb - this one is at his grandma's - my question is my chubby little monster is probably going to hit 28.66 lb before he gets to 9 months, at last weigh in 3 weeks ago he was 21lb.. what do you do then? Still put them in forward facing one even though he's not yet 9 months? hope that makes sense xx

They say 9 months because that is generally the age their neck muscles would be capable of holdong the head properly in the event of an accident (as opposed to letting it snap right back). Jake is still rear facing, i still dont think his back and neck are strong enough to turn the seat around yet. Hope that helps :D

ok so his neck strenght etc is more important than the weight thing.. thanks hun

hi, i was told by someone at mothercare that as long as LO can sit unaided for 20 mins and was 9 mths or over 20lb that a front facing car seat can be used.

Isaac was in his 'big boy' front facing seat before he reached 9months, we waited until he got to 22lbs as that's when our baby car seat ran out as it were. Like Natalie says its about neck and sitting unaided really, and Isaac's been great with them for a long time, they are fine in their baby seat, rear facing, as long as their head is below the top, but their feet can go over, as I was told by Mothercare staff. If you go to Mothercare they really are very helpful and informative, but I do know its ok to move LO into front facing before 9months

Thanks girls - Jack is fine with his head control but he can't sit unaided yet - I'll try him in the old car seat again and check. I may pop into Mothercare at the weekend and they can check for me

I had the opposite problem. my LO is too small. She's 15months old and weighs 21lbs. when she was 9months she wasn't heavy enough and was too short to fit in to most forward facing seats but too tall to fit in to the mamas and papas infant seat she had so I had to get a britax cosy tot car seat which has much more head room, but as she's older she hated facing backward. when i went to get the new infant seat her head went over the top of all of them (in several shops) even tho her weight was well below the maximum and she's under average height for her a child her age.
