We currently have a small hatchback for our family of 3 which has been just about right for travelling in. We are now expecting our 2nd child and as our 18 month year old grows older, we need to be able the extra space to accommodate both children, especially for holiday.

We were thinking of a Petrol (as we will not be doing more than 10-12k miles in a year) cross over/SUV such as the New Nissan Qashqai or Lexus NX300...

I think we would end up leasing as we would not pay out right for either of the cars.
Do any parents on here have any of the above cars or recommend any for a family of 4?

We will be doing mainly city driving so although economical is something unlikely for an SUV/Cross Over, anything close to a good economical drive is what we would be after along with the extra space (especially extra boot space!).

Any suggestions would be welcomed :)

I have a Peugeot 3008- the boot space in it is fab ;one of the reasons I bought it).

It's got a loft up section, so the pram sits underneath, then there's a shelf, so you still have lots of boot space available.

Also plenty of room in the back - we have an erf child seat, which is pretty bulky, and there's still plenty of room for the front passenger as they don't have to have seat too far forward

I've been looking at these recently. DH has a Hyundai IX35 as a hire car when his was in getting fixed, and it's the same length as my Megane but there was loads of room inside. I'm going up to a Citroen Picasso I think as this has 3 full seats in the back - there are very few that does this, most have a half seat in the middle. I like the Qashqui too but I've not looked at it due to the half seat issue.

I cannot recommend the Dacia Duster enough atm, It's an absolute bargain and drives like a dream! I bought one to use as a delivery vehicle for cakes and it is amazing :D x

We have had our Nissan Juke for 7 months now from new and absolutely love it. The boot space is fab.
We have the 1.5 diesel and we mostly do around the doors and get 49mpg, on longer routes its averaged at 55-58mpg
The petrol is a lot less mpg.

I used to have a Honda crv which was pretty economical and spacious x
