well im a little confused and we cant seem to find any answers anywhere.
My midwife gave me a MATB1 form today and said my oh could use it towards maternity leave for when i have bubs.

Well he has an employer but he is self employed, so we are wondering how we go about it. Does he just take leave when baby is born and not get paid? Or can he get paid for having time off ??

grateful for any advice.

If you OH is self employed then he isn't entitled to anything I'm afraid :(
My OH is in the same situation. The company he works for are fine with him taking a couple of weeks off but it is unpaid. Your OH should speak to those he is working for and see what time off they will allow him and if they will offer him any pay - but it is unlikely.

my oh is self emplyed too and he just got to take a week off unpaid :(

if you are worried about him having to take unpaid time off, id say get him to take the time off after LO is born as holidays. thats what my OH is doing, as he only gets one week pat leave, the 2nd would be unpaid. so he has decided to take the 2nd week as hold so he gets paid for it! seems unfair to have to take time off and not get paid for it, its your baby after all!! x x x x

He cant have holidays he is self employed, so if he has holidays they are unpaid anyway.

We have looked into it and he's just got to have time off unpaid.

we were the same hun it stinks we got into soooooooo much debt while i was in hospital we had to remortgage the house to get our self straight there should be some sort of money for dads to have a few days paid
