Looking at this today it looks like my DH doesn't qualify. Can someone tell me if I'm reading this right.

have been with your employer for at least 26 weeks by the end of the 15th week before the beginning of the week when the baby's due

So he would have to have been at the job he is at now 1 week before we conceived as 15 weeks before edd is 25 weeks????? :? .

If I'm reading this right he's not entitled as he started in Feb. If so, is he entitled to take unpaid leave and get benefits for the 2 week period??

my oh had only been working for his company 3 weeks before jack was born and he still got paternity leave with pay, i would query it as i am sure it is paid by the government not his employer

can't you just say the baby is due in the next week ;)

He would have to have started November 23rd 2007 from what I can make out :( .

So annoying as he got made redundant from previous job in Jan :x

We talked about it and might be able to get compassionate leave with a doctors note or something if I lie and say my SPD is too bad for me to do anything or Carpal tunnel which I have only very mildly but could lie and say I can't pick anything up. At least he will get the time off  . Not fair, he's worked since leaving school and can't get anything :x

He may still be able to get something depending who he works for. If it's a big company they're usually pretty good with employee benefits and will offer more than the statutory rights anyway.

I'd get him to speak to his HR department (if there is one) or his manager and see what they can offer him.

it really does depend on the employer, my OH has been working for his company for a while now but when you r baby is due he can either have 2 weeks off with paternity pay (same as smp) or take 2 weeks of his holidays so he gets full pay.... surely there isnt a company out there that wont let someone have time off to be with a new baby? that would be very bad press for them no matter what their size :D

husband is taking 2 weeks off on SMP but the company may give him full pay and then hes taking an additional 2 weeks off on full pay using holidays, but he has alot of time off due to working offshore.

I rang and spoke to his HR woman today who was very nice and she said that he will definitely get the time off just not sure about pay. At least he will be off with me for 2 weeks as I was getting a little worried he wouldn't.

Oh my gosh Hazel I was going to post something similar myself!!

My OH was also made redundant in Jan, started new job first week of March, and I'm 33 weeks too! (And he too has worked full time since leaving school)

His work have allowed him the time off (2 weeks) but unpaid.

What we wanted to find out was if there is some sort of Paternity Allowance, like with Maternity Allowance, that we can claim for??

We got a letter yesterday from hiscompany and they are going to pay him   . We are lucky as they don't have to but I think they like him :D .

I had a little look and there is something about claiming something if the man has been on benefits during a certain time frame. I didn;t look into it too much as we never claimed jsa and he just temped after redundancy.

It does make me sick that he wasn't legally entitle to anything as he's worked for 11 years since leaving school, always paid his tax and NI and just because he lost his job through no fault of his own that he wasn' going to get anything. :x

They have asked for my mat b1 cert but I have no idea where it is  so going to ask mw for another one and say my handbag got stolen with it in :shhh: .

Dads who do not qualify for SPP, or who earn less than £87 per week, may be able to get Income Support while on paternity leave. Other financial support may also be available - contact your local Jobcentre Plus office for advice.
