Can I have your thoughts on each of these names?

We are having a girl, and thinking too much about names. Our son is Jasper and it just clicked for both of us, girl has proved much harder.

We go back and forth a lot on our top ten favourite list.

In order of favourite and the reasons:

Zoe - it means "life" and we don't know anyone with that name

Jessica - It has always been a favourite of mine, but it is too similar to Jasper

Ella - We both like it a lot, but it just doesn't seem enough of a name somehow (but DH hated Eleanor when I suggested that)

Francesca - we both like a lot, but we aren't Italian, we kind of think a name should "fit" who you are

Leah - Means "weary cow" which isnt very good! But it was our favourite of all the similar names like: Laila, Laia, Lola, Lily, Lyra, etc

Megan - My husband thinks it's too celtic for us

Mya - as above (we don't like Mia)

Holly - Bit too generic?

Hazel - Bit too hippy?

Rose - I keep putting this on the list but DH keeps taking it off, lol

Names that made the short list but not the top 10:
Poppy
Heather
Jemima
Summer
Autumn
and Amber, which would be in the top ten but is a bit silly next to Jasper

Sorry for the long post, any thoughts would be enormously appreciated because we can't discuss with family and friends because last time they ripped our list to pieces and I found it very upsetting! (it's totally different when it's strangers on the internet somehow lol)

I love the name Hazel, it would be on our list but it was my Granny's name and we have a not naming after family policy. I don't think it is hippy at all (and my Granny would be horrified if anyone had thought that of her!). Holly is lovely too, I know a couple of people my age called it but not heard many younger people. My sister always loved the name Rose, she would make us call her by it. One of my best friends has a Jessica, personally I don't like how it shortens as to me Jess is a cat. I also like Zoe, Megan and Francesca on your top ten, although again not sure about Fran if it was shortened.

I agree about family, if we ever get a sticky bfp we won't be sharing any shortlisted names with them. It is hard enough choosing without having everyone else get a say. Go with a name you both love and don't worry about what they think. How long do you have left? I always said I wouldn't decide on a name until they are here in case they didn't suit the name we had chosen.

I love the name Jessica to. That was always top choice for us if we was having a girl. I love the name Heather but I'm biest haha tho I hate Hev which is what I get called most of the time! I agree with not telling people till baby is here because people tell u they don't like it, they won't do that one baby's here unless they are really mean ! My little boys called Mikey and I know it's not to everyone's taste and we didn't tell anyone untill he was here what we was calling him for that reason x

"Leah? Like Starwars? Urgh."

"Francesca? It would be Frankie, that's really harsh sounding".

I stopped telling her after that...

Only name I don't like at all is Mya. It's a bit too faddy / made up for me!

My fave has to be Amber. We named our bloody cat Amber though so can't use it.

I think it sounds fine with Jasper?

Other than that I love Jessica (was on our shortlist - along with Elizabeth before we decided on our name) I think Jessica and Jasper go quite well together?

I think Maia is a nicer way of spelling Mya
it means spring day or something which is lovely!

I like amber, autumn and Ella most out of the bunch. I know name meanings can be off putting but I wouldn't worry about them. It's not like we look each other's names up lol.

My daughter's called Eleanor, we tend to call her Ellie or Ella (OH never liked Eleanor and before she was born we were going to go with Sophie Eleanor, then once she was born OH gave me the choice, so I went for Eleanor Sophie!).

I actually really like all the names on your list, but Zoe, Jessica and Megan are lovely.

I like Mya! But I am a Francesca! We aren't Italian though lol and my mum hated Fran/Frankie as it was harsh sk I am a Chesca for short ( have to put the H in or people don't say CH sound at the beginning)

We both loved Leah but oh is Lee and I felt it was too similar

Exactly the reason we didn't discuss our name choices with any friends or family. Tell your Mom it's Leia from starwars not Leah hahah. I love them all to be honest! Not much help x
