we spent a whole day having appointments last Thursday and we've got a proper diagnosis for Callum which means we can finally get some help for him.

Up until now, he's been under lots of different people, each diagnosing their own thing, but because each problem on it's own is small, we've never been able to get proper help for him. Now he's got umbrella care for Aspergers and we can get access to everything he needs through one person

At last, when people look at him strangely in the street, we can say 'he has aspergers' instead of 'he's weird' :rotfl:

Im sorry i have no idea what that is, altho im glad hes eventually got a diagnosis.

would you mind telling me more on his condition, or findin a gd linky for me to read, and thanks xx

Bet ur glad u have a answer at last hun, now u know for sure what he has u will be able to get loads of help for him. There are loads of people with Aspergers who life very fullfilled lives and enjoy life too. Also if anyone looks at ur son in the street, stare right back and them, they shouldnt be staring in the first place.

Fabulous! That will make such a difference to Callum, how wonderful for him and all of you. Happy for you

When he launches into a full blown light sabre fight with mr invisible (a la star wars kid) in the middle of town, it's difficult not to  He gets quite a crowd

Hunny i know the feeling been in that situation plenty of times, and it pisses me off the amount of people that look, or little old lady's try to help :rotfl:

Aww hunn, so sorry to hear about him, hope its something he will grow out of, xx

Oh I only just saw this hun.

I look after a 7 year old at work with this...he's such a sweet kid, once you know his "rules" he's so sensitive and lovable. Hope it helps you deal with him better :)

Hi! Ive only just seen this, sam showed me, yes my youngest son lee has it he was only diagnose just over a year ago and is now 13, people are always staring at him and also because of his size too. By all means pm me if you need to know anything, makes it all the more easier with a diagnosis too. I'd never thought of claiming - we were on DLA for his dyspraxia / digestive problems for a while but couldn't be bothered with all the forms. Might think about it again though. We've managed him pretty well up until recently - now the difference between him and his peers is much more noticeable so it's getting harder for him and he's getting frustrated and aggressive. We asked for a thorough review hoping we might get some support for when he starts high school (he's 9 now), but it's all gone through quicker than we thought. All the stuff that we've been told 'he'll grow out of' have been added to his list  We go back on 3rd May to discuss medication - we're hoping he'll calm down a bit once we've moved and he's settled in. He's been on ritalin before, but I'm not sure whether that's the direction we want to go in this time. It's been a bit of a minefield deciding which of his problems go with which diagnosis and who we had to see for help in the past, now we just see one team.

Urchin - his rules and obsessions crack us up most of the time - it's something we're used to now and we just go along with most of them. Current one is maps - he has to take paper everywhere and draw maps in case we get lost :?

i am so pleased that you have finally got an answer. i agree that you should claim as every bit of money that you are entitled can help towards costs.
