Hey ladies,

I'm hoping one or a few of you can do me a favour? It's going to sound really weird.

Basically when I went into labour with my son, there was a H&S sticker on the end of my bed and every time I would have a contraction I would stare at that sticker and read it over and over and over, it really helped me to focus and stay calm and I actually think that sticker helped so unbelievably much ( I did say it would be weird)

So, I'm due in 19 days, my first child came 18 days early so I would like to be prepared. I've been asking my partner for WEEKS, if not months, if he could prepare for me roughly 10 random facts on some paper that I could dot around the house to focus on during contractions. Naturally, he has not done this (usually it takes roughly 6 weeks between me asking him to do something and it actually getting done :wall2:) and I'm getting anxious that I won't have these to focus on. He's going away on a 3 day stag do this weekend (yes you read that correctly) and I can see this as something he won't do before he goes. I've now given up on asking him :-(

So im asking if anyone could possibly do this and email them to me? Obviously I can't do it myself as it needs to be new to me when I need them...

I'll give an example...

'Saturn’s nearest moon takes just 12 hours to circle the planet. Its farthest moon takes more than three Earth years'

So nothing too technical, fancy, confusing... No big difficult to read words sort of thing? Could be about anything... Planets, animals, clouds, countries, cultures, food, basic science ect. Think 12 year old intellect level (not that I'm saying that's a bad thing/what I'm at but just something easy to absorb and not overwhelm!)

If each fact could be on a separate word/pages page and in large writing (so I can read it on the wall whilst on the bed!) and emailed to me kara_m_evans (at) hotmail.com

I know I know it sounds weird but it's really important to me and I really resent my partner for not doing this. He keeps whinging that we haven't attended childbirth classes but he doesn't seem to understand that for me, (having gone through child birth before and knowing that I need to revert into myself in private and find focus) telling me to breath, making eye contact and giving me a half arsed back rub will not be supportive and will only serve to inhibit/stress me, he can be supportive by doing my facts, setting up the pool, applying the tens machine, getting me drinks, keeping my son entertained ect (all of which he's happy to potentially not be there for me to help with so he can go on a 3 day bender with his mates :shakehead:) and I just think if I can get these sorted, I can relax more...

Thank you sooo much in advance if anyone can help!

Hi snaveanator, didn't want to read and run but think this is a really clever idea, unfortunately I'm no good with basic facts etc but I'm sure you could find stuff like it online. Myself I have positive affirmations dotted around the house like...

'women have been doing this for thousands of years, they did it, so can I' and

'all I need to do is relax, nothing else' and have on our computer screen the words -

relax your jaw and shoulders' (I hold all my tension in my shoulders and now I have this subliminal message it has been working!)

I will be interested to see what other people come up with but it kinda makes sense to have distractions, I have given my OH a cue list of all the statements I have been practising as part of hypnobirthing (such as 3, 2, 1 relax and turn the dial down from 10 to 1) but have also listed some crib words on positive/romantic/funny experiences we have had together that Ive asked him to describe to me in detail (e.g. wedding day, honeymoon, holidays etc) - in between contractions to help take my attention off the sensations. I also have lots of thought provoking relaxing music and scenic video and timelapse blooming flower compilations to have playing on comp screen to distract me also...whatever you feel works to add to your toolkit is worth preparing even if you dont use half of it...

OK just googled some bits and these could be potential sources:

http://www.bobthealien.co.uk/earthten.htm - e.g. Earth is gradually slowing down. Every few years, an extra second is added to make up for lost time.

http://www.sciencekids.co.nz/sciencefacts/animals.html - e.g. Rats breed so quickly that in just 18 months, 2 rats could have created over 1 million relatives

http://www.sciencekids.co.nz/sciencefacts/countries/england.html - e.g. The highest mountain in England is Scafell Pike, which stands at around 978 metres (3,209 ft) in height.

All I typed in on google was... '10 interesting facts about countries for kids' and then just swapped countries for earth, animals etc...plenty of choices...

I may even do the same snaveanator... :)

Ok how about for each contraction that pasts, your one closer to your baby....

The kuala bear is not actually a bear, it is related to the kangaroo

Xx

My hypno birthing technique is

For each breath imagine you are a breathing in a mist of red dusty horizon resembling the core strength and exhaling a yellow mist of calm and peace. It's very zoned but really good way of concentrating x

I like that emapot, similar to Maggiw Howell who talkes about inhaling bright/warm colours and exhaling dark colours with tension, I always gravitate towards yellow/orange for inhale and browns/blacks for exhale...

Yes it's basically just such a good method to get your through contractions. I haven't really explored enough techniques but hope to do this soon. Have you any recommendations of CDs x

yes the maggie howell 'Effective birth preparation' natal hypnotherapy programme - there is a book £10 and a collection of CDs £40 and I can tell you it has been worth the money, listened to them nightly from about week 26 and the suggestions are settling in my mind really well...I daresay if you look around on youtube etc you may find something cheaper but I would especially recommend the book - best £10 I ever spent!
