Caffine.

It's really difficult knowing what's safe and what's not during pregnancy, as a rule, I stick to water, with the occasional green tea with lemon, if I'm in need of something else a small gof Ginger ale which is also good for morning sickness, I started this when pregnant with my son and have stuck to it ever since,

I have a cup of tea in the morning, a can of coke or irn bru a couple times a week. I've gone off coffee again just like I did in the first tri. There's a few herbal teas you should avoid but I'm not sure on them all. RLT is not advised until 36 weeks, I don't think it can actually induce labour but it makes the uterues more stretchy (so i've been told) I had to cut down on caffiene because I get palpitations and they get worse when I've had too much.

Doc gave me leaflet today that says

"limit caffeine to no more than 200milligrams per day.
1 mug of instsnt coffee = 100 milligrams
1 mug of filter coffee = 140 milligrams
1 mug of tea = 75 milligrams
1 can of cola = 40 milligrams
1 can of energy drink = up to 80 milligrams."

hope this helps :) x x x x

5 cans of coke is allowed which I thought was insane and 2 cups instant coffee. I cut it out altogether at first but now I allow myself about 2 lattes a week and 2 large glasses of diet coke a week too with decaf and herbal tea in between. Its nice as a treat.

What herbal tea would you reccomend?
as its herbal, does this mean it could benefit the baby?

It's not herbal but red bush tea is good during pregnancy - lots of antioxidants and it's caffeine free. I have a serious tea addiction so it gave me something else to drink instead

Google "mama tea" and it has different kinds of tea for different stages of pregnancy. It's fab!

I still drink tea but i've cut down alot compared to the amount I used to drink. I only ever drink coke if I really fancy something fizzy which isn't very often. I'm more worried about the amount of sugar in coke than the caffiene to be honest! My friend suffered gestational diabetes with all 3 of her babies and was told that the reason babies are sometimes larger is because they literally live on any sugar we give them! I'm not sure how true this is because obviously some babies are just big at birth but my SIL's 1st baby was 9lbs and a week early and she practically lived on coke, mcdonalds, red bull and chocolate for the whole 9 months she carried my Neice  so maybe there is some truth in it. Don't quote me though! :) x

I drink decafe tea n coffee n it's fine, as I did the same b4 I was pregnant

Sayin this in this pregnancy it's one of things I've craved!! Fresh coffee n fizzy pop choc n toffees ha, but I still don't drink to much just the odd coffee n can of pop ha x x x

i havent stuck to the recommendations i didnt on any of my babies

i wouldnt function without caffine especially with my lot

and yes there is caffine in chocolate too i dont eat much chocolate though i need a cold drink straight after chocolate

Ditto - I LOVE tea and drink about 4 cups a day and maybe the odd coffee too. I have always drank a lot of tea so don't think it will have too much of an adverse effect on baby. Also, after cutting out alcohol, medium-rare steak, runny eggs etc caffeine is my only vice! x

I drank a lot of caffeine, not to mention the amount of energy drinks.
Don't drink the stuff any more! Although I have had a cup of tea this morning.
I think a cup once in a blue moon is fine.

im struggling with this as i like my coffe, trying to cut down but i dont like tea or drink pop so its coffee or water for me, find this a lot harder than giving up the alcohol!!

yeah you should cut down, but it doesnt need to be cut out completely

and as with everything else that you shouldnt have too much of in pregnancy or you should be careful of, if she really wants a big mug of coffee then she should have it, there is nothing worse than depriving yourself of something you really want :)

I have changed my tea to decaff (I have yorkshire tea decaf and its lovely)
but I still drink diet coke and the odd coffee when I fancy it (never been a big coffee drinker anyway) and i still eat chocolate...because lets be honest ladies life wouldnt be the same without a bit of choc every now and then :D
