Are women allowed caffine when they are pregnant?

It does state that you should try and stay away from it but on other sites it states that its not a problem if you only have small portions per day, but surely taking caffine on an "irregular" basis will harm the baby more as you body isnt used to it :S

Whats the truth lady's????

ou can have caffine just dont go mad, couple of cups a day is fine, not to mention caffine actually dehydrates you so you should go mad pregnant or not

yeah in moderation its sound i dont know anyone that has cut it out completly. i have cut down but your partner will be fine having the odd coke or cuppa. Just as above remember its dehydrating so drink lots of water too

Think I read somewhere you can have 2 cups of instant coffee or 3 cups of tea or 5 tins of coke. something like that? It says in the pregnancy book you get from the midwife at the booking in appoinment. Rememeber there is caffine in some chocolate as well.

I drank a couple of coffees a day while pregnant but used to drink a lot more than that before

I stopped it completely in Tri 1 but as time went by I just started having normal coffee and tea again as I don't drink loads anyway. Think moderation is the key!

5 cans of coke is allowed which I thought was insane and 2 cups instant coffee. I cut it out altogether at first but now I allow myself about 2 lattes a week and 2 large glasses of diet coke a week too with decaf and herbal tea in between. Its nice as a treat.

i havent stuck to the recommendations i didnt on any of my babies

i wouldnt function without caffine especially with my lot

and yes there is caffine in chocolate too i dont eat much chocolate though i need a cold drink straight after chocolate

What herbal tea would you reccomend?
as its herbal, does this mean it could benefit the baby?

Don't think it'll be any benefit to the baby really, green tea maybe but not fruity ones and I can't think of any other ones that would be, other than nice healthy and refreshing way to stay hydrated.

i think there are some herbal teas that should be avoided not entirely sure on this though so dont quote me on it lol

I have switched to decaf tea and I only have one maybe two of them a day anyway, but I do allow myself to have a coke now and again. I used to have lots of caffeine but I have really cut it back. I drank as I normally would with my daughter and she was fine - was a healthy weight too at 8lb!

I have around 2 cups of tea a day and the odd piece of chocolate. I think it's fine as long as you don't go too mad :)

with my first pregnancy i switched to green tea for the first trimester.....

... and then found out it has caffiene in too! i was gutted as i thought i was being all healthy!!lol!

Yeah, your meant to avoid Green Tea because it has lots of caffeine in, didn't know this until recently! You would think it's really good for you!

you can buy decaf green tea. I was drinking that for a while but was sick one day after a cuppa so that put me RIGHT off it.

I think raspberry leaf tea is supposed to be avoided until your due date as it can cause you to go into labour, or so I've been told!!!
I didn't drink caffeine whilst we were ttc so already got used to decaff tetley tea and decaff Nescafe gold blend, which in my opinion are no different to the caffeine versions!!! I did used to still drink diet coke but since getting pregnant I've switched to the caffeine free diet coke at home but if we go out somewhere I'll have a normal diet coke. I have got a bit addicted to sparkling water as its like having a soft drink but a bit healthier!!
I think the guidelines on caffeine arent too bad I think as long as your oh doesn't go mad drinking 20 cups of espresso a day, everything in moderation, but there are some great caffeine free substitutes if like me you'd rather not but still fancy a cuppa!!!

LOL I know that feeling, i cant touch ribena now and probably never will again after bringing it back up so many times during my morning sickness phase!!!
