i was at a friends last nite, and we were talkin about boobie feeding, i told her how i get pains and is it normal etc.. she asked what bra i wear.. i do have nursing bra for nite, but in day just wear my normal under wired bra (if i go out) she said i shudnt it affects milk supply etc and restricts you,

is this true, i never knew you couldnt wear normal bra's?? xx

Underwired bras can block your milk ducts and blocked milk ducts can lead to mastitis, which can be very painful to start off with and can make you feel really ill, antibiotics are needed to shift it. If you prefer to wear a normal bra just go for non underwired.

See here for info on bras and mastitis http://www.babycentre.co.uk/baby/buyingforbaby/breastbottlesolids/breastfeeding/

thank you hun, i really didnt know, no-one told me, and m/w had seen bra i wear!! xx

also my nursing bra is underwired?? xxx

It could be that your nursing bra's underwire is made from modal (?). Sorry if that is the wrong name for it, but I read ages ago that it is safer than normal underwires... OR it could be that it was made by a company that doesn't really know what it is doing and figures they can slap a couple of clips and drop down flaps on a bra and sell it as a nursing bra. Your cup size will fluctuate pretty dramatically throughout the day (mine still does), and having something as rigid as a wire can be harmful. The right nursing bra will allow for some expansion and contraction.
