So I'm 20 weeks and we've finally got our bum into gear and decided we ought to buy some things in preparation!!!

My last pregnancy I exclusively breast fed and used a tommee tippee manual breast pump and their electric one in order to create a back up supply in the freezer. Both those pumps were beyond useless, I'd pump for an hour and get a couple of ml.

Anyway I've heard great things about the medela swing but it's very pricey and I don't want to get it if it's not up to scratch. It's so important to me to be able to express for those times I just can't feed and I really want to get the breast pump right this time!!!!

Any advice much appreciated :) thanks

Some women find they just can't express for whatever reason - however good their supply...don't have any recommendations I'm afraid but could you look into perhaps borrowing from a children's centre or hiring to try one out?

Can't recommend the medella highly enough- its been fantastic for me :) x

I love my medela swing. I express in the morning after the 6am feed and usually get 3oz off. Some people just can't expess

I had the Medela also and found it fab. I used to get 100ml of each side every feed ( I was expressing due to baby being in nicu) but when with my son I had the tommee tippee manual I couldn't get much at all. It's really worth the money imo xxx

medela swing is fab, look on ebay, and just buy a new kit from your local breastfeeding support peers :) Also a little tip for expressing, try to express baby on you, the oxytocin will be high and give you good milk output.

I'm an exclusive breast pumper...not through choice but because I had loads of thrush problems so baby became too used to getting expressed milk in a bottle.
So I splashed out and got the Medlea freestyle double pump (£250 on Amazon). I had been using the tomme tippee electric for the first 8 weeks and although it worked well enough it was just too slow - I was getting plenty out but took 40minutes. Medela takes 15-20minutes and that's it. Obviously I have to pump a lot so time was everything! I also use the medel Calma bottles which are excellent.
I don't have experience of the swing but I'm inclined to think it is just as good as the freestyle and the only real difference is the ability to move around and not be plugged in. But in practice moving around isn't practical as I tend to tip the bottle and spill some which is devastating!
Agree with others though - somepeople just really can't get on with expressing and never get anywhere. Someone on here was saying they can't get anything with electric but get tons with manual so I think you just need to see what works x

I have the nuk electric pump which can run off batteries or plugged in. I get about 50ml in 15 mins with it and its very comfortable. I never got anything out with the manual tommee tippee.
