What does everyone think about naming a little boy after his dad?

We are struggling to find a back up boys name we both like, and OH came up with the bright idea of naming it after him (Adam).

I like the name, but have had people turn their nose up at naming it the same.


What does everyone think?

I think it's a lovely idea if the names nice! Adam is a great name (the original! )

Personally I think it's a bit odd - my OHs whole family have a traditional family name that is used for all the boys (then they get a nickname, but confusingly this is one nickname, used for them all). Family gatherings are hystercial

So, I wouldn't be keen.

I also think it sounds a bit vain, but maybe that's just me, sorry if I have offened you or your OH! Can anyone else be a bit more positive??? !!!!

my dh's side have very similar names.my dh is called john-henry,his dad is john and his grandad (now deceased) was called harry,my son is harry-john,
sounds quite cute adam junior.AJ

I mentioned to my OH that he would be Adam Snr and he had to convince himself he liked the idea

Hello,
My husbands name is phillip james payne and his dad is philip charles payne, my husband wanted him to be a phillip but i dont think its a current babies name so we have settled for james phillip instead. i do like the idea of naming after parents and grand parents.

I say all this but we dont even know the sex

I think my husband is hoping for a boy, id like a girl. I like eleanor jessie, jessie was my late grandmas name so i like that for a middle name, not sure about using it for a first name though.

i love the idea of it but one of the residents at work name is maria and her daughters name is maria gets a bit confusing lol

yep, we are haivng a girl, but i want a back up boys name (i have friends where they where told a girl and it poped out a little boy).

She is going to be my little Alice.

personally i don't like the idea of the a sons name being the same as the dad ( a middle name being the dads name is OK though) but maybe that because my OH's name is Brian and his dads name is Brian, my uncle is called Brian, my cousin is called Brian, My grandfather is called Brian, and two of my cousins partners are called Brian. so all in all just too many Brians in the family! however if we have a son we are going to name him Jack Brian Lindsay Gellatly (the two middle names after both his grandfathers) .

If we have a boy we are going to have OH name as a MN which I think is better as they are there own individual person and it would end up getting so confusing with the post and telephone calls and other things like that.
