Hi Girls

For personal reasons I have no choice but to bottle feed ! So I am trying to decide what stuff i need!!!

I know i need a steralizer - what one would you recommend?
How many bottles should I get?
Anything else I need?

Someone recommended putting a small fridge in the nursery one of the mini table top ones that hold 1 or 2 bottles so that it helps in the night feed!! is this a good idea or not??

Am trying to do my research so I am ready to pounce on good deals in the sales!! as they happen in January!!

Thanks girls feels overwhelming at the moment !!

We just use a tommee tippee microwave steriliser and it's fine. We have 8 closer to nature bottles (not that I needed them all  ) and 4 Dr Brown bottles. The Dr Brown ones were great when she was colicky.

To be honest I wouldn't worry about a fridge especially when the recommendation is that you make up the bottles fresh as you need them. Not too practical when you have a screaming newborn though. We just part fill the bottles with boiled water and top them up with boiling water as she needs them, adding the powder and giving them a shake, that way they're at the perfect temperature. Some also just feed their milk at room temp which is fine too. You just have to work out what suits you best when LO is here

We also use the Tommee Tippee microwave sterilizer and have had no problems with it, we have 6 bottles which we have found to be more than enough and we make the bottles up ready just before going to bed. We've got an Advent bottle warmer which is fab for the night feeds but as daftscotslass said its fine to feed at room temperature so whatever you prefer to do really and whatever suits your LO best

I have the Tommee Tippee steam steriliser. Very good steriliser. Very quick and fits 5 bottles in there plus a few dummies. I have 9 closer to nature bottles (we don't use them all now) plus 2 doctor brown bottles. xxx

I have the avent microwave steriliser and am happy with that. I have about 4 small bottles and 4 large bottles. Ollie is already on 2 of the larger bottles so i wouldnt go mad on the small ones.

I would also recommend an insulated bottle bag (i use this at night as i take the hot water in the bottle to bed along with the tommie tippee flask and powder. I then mix the powder with the water and use the boiling water from the flask to heat the bottle up. oh and portion pots may come in handy for out and about.

I have the tommee tippee one too! Got it from Tk Maxx for £9.99 and it came with 2 nuby bottles free!

I also have the Tommee Tippee mIcrowave steriliser and think it is great, it is so easy to sterilise and you can store it in the microwave - so much better than a steam one that clutters up the worktop imo. Plus it is usually on offer somewhere for 9.99 and includes a couple of bottles.

We had 8 bottles when she was tiny as this many meant that we didn't have to worry about washing up and sterlising too often!!

I would recommend the TT powder pots too as they make life so much easier esp in the early days of sleep deprivation.

We made our bottles up in the same way as DSL, as making them up in advance isn't recommended, plus we found this easier than trying to warm up bottles from the fridge.

I have the tomme tippee microwave steriliser too! I like it, it's really easy to use.

I've also got tommee tippee powder pots which I find really useful. I fill them up with the right amount of formula when I sterilise so that I don't have to measure the formula out at each feed, useful at night especially!

We started with a steam steraliser but quickly changed to a cold water one. They are so much easier to use and you just grab a bottle when ever you need one. It was the tommee tippee microwave/cold water one we bought. xxx

I use tommee tippee electric steam steriliser. It takes, bottles, pump equipment, food pots, spoons etc.

we bought 2 tommee tippee anti colic bottles with the weird tube thing in them and got 3 normal anti colic botles free with the steriliser and that does us fine.

Ditto. You can get the box set for about £85 (full price) which has 9 bottles, the steriliser, bottle brush, a bottle warmer, some pots to carry formula in and a beaker cup for when you start to teach baby to drink properly :)

I find you can actually fit the 6 bottles in that it reccomends but if all of them are full size it's a squeeze  you do get 2 of them in the smaller size that only hold 5oz in though and I also clean my dummies in there.

I used to make up 3 bottles at a time and put them in the fridge and just warm them up in the microwave for about 25seconds so they are about room temperature but hubby reckons it gave our baby more wind than fresh bottles so currently I'm making them all up fresh and having to cool them down under the tap...even at 4am :wall:

Thank you so so much girls this has really really helped!!

i know what to look for now in the sales!! let me know if you see any special offers or good deals!!

I started off with an avent steriliser that came with tounges, then upgraded to the modern boots one that also came with tongues that went with the kitchen decor ha ha how sad...both were good though. I bought 6 bottles and some descaling sachets.

Bottles I spent 30 quid on for 6 :| they were tommee tipee health check that leaked everywhere when you warmed them (they went in the bin), so I ended up with the boots or mothercare home brand bottles and I had the nuby teats with the bumps on. Wide neck bottles are easier to make up too.

Instead of a bottle warmer I used a jug and boiled water.
