that idiot has gone an ended an oil deal with venezuala that means anyone who was getting half price bus and tram fares will now have to pay full fare again- and public transport prices will now rise!
grrr what a buffoon- sorry just my opinion!

i didnt know anyone was getting half price bus/tram fairs to start with lol i think he looks like a cartoon though if that helps ?

if your on income support you could get your oyster card prices half price- you just had to fill out a form and get a photo id thing made at the post office- but its gonna be revoked now!
i think he looks like a little britain character- lol

 I'm going to piss some people off and say GOOD.

I don't see why some people should get half price public transport- it's not that expensive if you have an oyster card and if you can't afford to pay full fare you should have to walk!

I had to pay £3,500 a year for my season ticket when I was working- why should I have to subsidise a load of students who made the buses busier which meant I (who paid full fare) couldn't have a seat- even when I was pregnant!?!

There's too much given away to people in this society- IMO if you can't afford it you can't have it. :shakehead:

I'm in a mood this morning :talkhand:

I might annoy people here as well.

Firstly - he did also say he would honour it till the end of the initial proposed scheme so i don't think it will end straight away. And if I remember rightly then bus fares are fairly cheap anyway. A 7 day pass is £13 so you can pretty much go where you like for less than £2 a day. Although I haven't lived in London for 5 years so excuse me if this info is incorrect.

Secondly - he also said that he didn't see why one of the richest western cities should be subsidised on the backs of people in one of the poorest cities. if we want their oil we should pay for it - and I agree with this.

If we relied on one particular export for the majority of our GDP and the gov't accepted reduced prices which meant that a vast majority of the population lived in extreme poverty then we would be furious and would, rightly, feel like we were being ripped off. We in the West rely too much on cheap labour/products from others who are suffering to provide us with day to day things that they themselves cannot afford. We need to start looking at the whole global market/economy and make some serious changes. And yes that does mean that, certainly for a while at least, we may be a little bit worse off. But things cannot continue in the way they are. I believe we are heading for a global crash and we are too blind to see it and too apathetic to do anything about it. It is still a case of, "well I'm alright, sod the rest".

Sorry for the rant and I know I have oversimplified the issues somewhat and gone a bit off subject! :D It's a bit of a soapbox issue for me.

I agree 100%
We are on the verge of a global recession. Things are going to get a hell of a lot worse before they get better.

Totally agree!!!! My husband actually works on the oil rigs between Venezula, Trinidad and Surinam and he says the living conditions there are awful and that they should get paid more for their oil, especially when oil prices are so high - think it was $135 a barrel the other day.

Also, on the note of £2 a day tickets - I'm in Aberdeen, tiny little city compare to London and we are £2.80 a day off peak, £3.40 peak!! :x

As one of those students, also with a part time job, who made the bus busier i dont see why anyone has more right to a place on the bus than anyone else, fair enough theres a higher percentage of litle shits in london i noticed from when i was at uni there, but i dont see why i should have to walk to uni ! Then again i didnt even know about the half price bus thing so :S
Now im back in northampton, not even a city and bugger 90p a ride, the bus is £1.60 for a ten minute route to town ! £5.70 return to neighbouring town of kettering ! Its only £15, return to london ffs !

I just wanna add to this if you cant afford go without, what about OAPS, surely you cant begrudge them a little help with transport, there too old to drive, have worked their whole lives and now thery cant get into town for their shopping, or that once a week trip to bingo because they cant afford the bus fare ?

i know what your saying i didn't have a half price fare card and i like loads of ppl have to pay £2 a journey for a bus service thats is sub-standard and turns up when it wants- where i can't always fit my buggy on etc.. and ps people that are paying full fare are not subsidising the half price fare ppl as the savings came from a deal where they got lower price oil and could pass the savings along to ppl in low income situations- i do walk a lot of places but its not always practical. i have always paid full fares before but they are a rip off in the last few years a single adult fare has gone from 70p to £2 and the service isnt any better! my other complaint is that the fares are going to rise even more now.
