I went to baby and todder and there was a baby there with a personalised bead dummy clip - i had one myself for Alice but haven't used it yet, and a lot of the other mums where asking where you could buy them, mine was from the hairdressers and hers online.

Anyway i got home and googled and found a site that showed how to make them safely and what warning to put with them etc, so i used my money (i dont have much) to buy the kit for making them in the hope of making a bit of spend.

Anyway when looking again today i have found sites saying that these are dangerous and should be banned and not to sell them. I never thought mine came with a warning when i bought them but so did all the other dummy clips i have bought. I just thought that it was the same as anything else- dont leave alone and check for any damage!

The main reason that they say not to sell them is the glue could be toxic and the beads could be if it snapped. The same reason the Amber teething things where recalled.

I wont be using glue because im going to sow mine but now im gutted that i have spent my money on the beads etc. My fault for been stupid but there are hundreds for sale on-line so i stupidly assumed it was ok. i even bought the plastic clips and poppers because they where non toxic and 'safe' :wall2::wall2::wall2:

On a real down now because i had got so excited.

I bought a wee dummy clip on eBay for my boy with his name on it. Didn't think it could cause him any harm. Might not use it now tho. Might just hang it from his nappy bag. Yikes!xx

I dont think the glue will be toxic and if you dont leave him alone im sure its fine. They say you can make them for yourself but not to sell them so im a bit confused its like there not banned but not advised or something. I suppose they would be fine to clip on the pram or nappy bag... i dunno im just gutted!

I have one from ebay with my lgs name. Its poppers though so has no glue. & I just watch her with it tbh

Using tapatalk can't see tickers

Yeah mine doesn't have glue. It's a plastic clip with beads on it and a little popper at the end.xxx

Well thats what i bought, plastic poppers with a plastic clip and was just going to sow the clip on. I thought it would be a nice hobby. i even bought some non toxic wooden beads because i thought they would be really nice for baby to chew or feel but apparently a lot of sites say not to make them. I dont know if i should just make them for me and friends/ family or be really cheeky and just sell them, because there are loads for sale.

eBay is full of them...!!! You could always say they are for decoration purpose only, that way your covering your back.

Well im going to do key clips/ key ring things for clipping to your pocket/ inside of your bag, Bracelets, Dummy clips for attaching to pram etc and decoration. I have two orders so far one for a key clip and one for dummy clip- one is my sister and one my friend so i can tell her not to let her have it alone. x

Yeah - it's pretty much common sense really. But you never know! You could always get some wee cards made up free from vista print, that says on them maybe your contact number or link to a Facebook or eBay name and just say at the bottom for decoration purpose. Then put every item in a small sealed bag with a card in it.xxx

I was going to do that anyway just to cover myself, saying the obvious not to leave alone etc i will look on vista print though may look more professional x

I'd be very careful.

I have a friend who was honest with her dummy clips and sent a warning with every purchase that they have not been tested, not toys and not suitable to be left with child alone however she still got shut down. Trading standards arrived at her HOME and she also faced a possible £1000 fine and to appear in court. Luckily they left her alone after closing the sale immediately.

She did not use glue either. Lovely beads and having 2 myself really strong (kept in keepsake boxes) but still that doesn't matter glue or not. The type of clip an poppers doesn't make a difference either.

IMO despite you knowing what parents shouldn't do with these clips you know there is a problem and my conscience couldn't give them away let alone sell them.

Yeh im getting more interest in the key rings anyway so may just do them, there for adults so don't see an issue with trading standards, it would be like anything else home made.
I knew they are worried but i didn't see them as any more dangerous than the amber necklaces or anything like that, saying that they where withdrawn but oh well they know better than me. They should shut down the ebay shops though because there misleading!
