Its been 2 weeks now since ive had baby.. my bleeding was slow to start with for about 6 days, for the last 8 days all i have done is bleed very heavy and lots of it.. im going through 8-9 pads a day

The last 2 days when i go to the loo, its very stringy.. sorry about tmi, just want to know what and why this is...

Went to the docs today as i feel very drained and he said he could give me some pills to stop the bleeding, but then i said i was breast feeding, he said ok so no pills, but you should be slowing down as breast feeding helps the bleeding... obviously it isnt..

how long will it be like this.. i am getting very tired recently, i have low iron as it is and this bleeding isnt helping..

thanks girls

Sorry I don't know the answer but I was bleeding for about 4 weeks. I believe it is normal to bleed more heavily after 7 days.

Why don't you try phoning your MW or baby ward, you can still contact them up until baby is 1 month old for advice.

midwife is coming back out to us on friday so will ask her then, i have mentioned it to her as well as my doc, but maybe if she see's its getting to me and how ill i look she might suggest something for me to do or something..

thanks hun for your reply btw

I bled for ages after Conal about 6 weeks and about 2 were really heavy it also got stringy and had little clots in i assumed it was because he was prem cos with Willow i only bled a little bit after clotting.

Not sure if you would be the same if you had a section :?

Good luck

Heather

I bled for 9 weeks.. I was told by HV that if the bleeding got heavier it was a sign i was doing too much and too try rest as much as i could

aww hun  not much advise, but wanted to offer cuddles.  Def speak to your MW. they specialise in child birth etc, and i always found mine knew more than my gp.

are you taking anything to up your iron?can you still take pregncare when breast feeding? im pretty sure that contains iron

When I went to my GP recently re mastitis he didn't even ask if I was breastfeeding. I found a lot more info on the net than he told me so was not very impressed.

I don't think they are very sympathetic sometimes. They have to deal with far too many conditions to be able to know everything, MW and HV do seem to be a lot more knowledgable.

poor you

I had a similar problem after my eldest DD and again after Sam, I bled very heavlily and kept get getting stars before my eyes and felt very weak.

I couldn't take iron tablets so they made me drink beetroot juice and eat a million kiwis! It stopped after about five weeks, then the next week I got AF :x :x

Hope you feel better soon

Thanks for the hugs etc..

omg i woke last night to massive crippling pains and went to loo and lost clots as well.. im really worried now, i have a breast feeding support worker coming today but will mention my worries to her to see if she can relay back to the midwifery team at all..

I am on iron 3 tablets a day but with this much loss im not feeling the affects of it..

I know some of you have bled for weeks on end and i can sympathise but its so hard to explain on a computer your true symptoms if you know what i mean..

I really hope it settles down soon, on a good note maybe thats why im loosing so much weight so quick.. what do u think lol

When you breastfeeed it stimulates the uterus to contrct so you're more likely to bleed heavily if you're breastfeeding, but I'm not sure clots are normal. I think you should definitely get it checked out.

do you have a number to call your MW on? may be worth giving her a tinkle and seeing what she thinks?

I'm not going to help here but it is worth getting investigated! I am still bleeding and I had my little one 6 months ago now! I'm being referred to hospital on the 6th August. I take iron and have been anaemic for so long I forget how it feels to have energy! I am aslo breastfeeding and have stuck with it for my baby - I come second as far as I am concerned but she has had a good start now and I need to stop this blood loss now!I really hope it sorts out for you as I really sympathise - good luck!

Well another week later and im still the same, its quite heavy and im feeling quite drained by it all.. to be honest im now starting to think this is why bailey is feeding the way he is, im loosing so much blood maybe my milk is to thin, im gonna do as budge suggests about fruit and salad in another post and see if that helps my milk, but as for the bleeding it really is getting me down, ive been loosing clots now for 7 days, and they are not lessning off! Ive uped my iron intake on the docters say so, but really can i rely on iron to make me feel better, sarah i really hope i dont go as long as youve gone, i know its still very early days and cant begin to imagine how you coped with it, im falling apart after 3 weeks...

Im still going through approx 9-11 pads a day, its costing me a fortune i might as well just sit in the bath 24/7

Well if and when it finally stops i'll be sure to be jumping for joy!
