Bitten by a Bird - Worried?!?

Hiya,

Saturday i was bitten by a love bird on the finger. Really badly, tore the skin and bled quite a bit.
Well i cleaned it with an antiseptic wipe but i'm a bit worried.

I'm not sure if my tetanus has run out, have a funny feeling it may have this year. And i don't know the score with tetanus and pregnancy or anything i may have caught from the bird....

I'm worried...

Don't worry.

Only thing you can catch from birds is Psitticosis and it'll be obvious if the bird has it as it'll be really ill and have dull feathers.

hi, if you have had all the tetanus injections at school then you should be fully covered. Some doctors say you need boosters every 10 yrs, but i haven't had a booster for over 10 yrs think it was due in 2002! i spoke to the doctors and he said because i was in a high risk job, (veterinary nurse) i wouldn't need a booster unless i go badly bitten or scratched.

If you are worried give NHS direct or you surgery a ring and see what they think.

well the bird was in a pet shop so it should be healthy.
Also i think my tetanus was done in 96 so should need a booster this year.

But obviously now i'm pg so can you have a booster if your pg?

I think i'll ring the doc's just incase!!

Had an emergency doc's apt at 11.00 (had to wait till 11.45 tho).

He said he won't give me a booster or antibiotics as i'm pg. But to keep an eye on it. My tetanus was 10 years ago so ordinarily they would give me another booster. But he was reluctant. Which was good.

But the waiting room was full of toddlers having tantrums, they were all in need of supernanny, my head hurts so much now. I was sat there thinking, oh my god, what have i let myself in for! lol!

They only give boosters every 15 years now so your okay

I had my tetnus jab 9 years ago and they won't give me one for 6 more years.
