Imogens got asthma  thought she might have got away with it as shes been so amazingly healthy from birth.

Took her to the doctors this morning with her brother and expected him to say sore throat thats why shes coughing herself sick blah blah and I was so shocked when he said shes asthmatic. Apperently the change in pressure at bed time, and when she first gets up in the morning and coughing her guts up literally, is a sign.

I had no idea and was totally unprepared. Stephen has inhalers becuase he wheezes oevery so often and is prone to viral infections, but i was prepared for the fact that he could be asthmatic because of all the health problems we have had with him.

As you can guess im feeling vunerable right now, worried and scared. I know its just asthma but i wasnt counting on my little princess having it.

The first night of using her inhaler she was so much better, only up twice instead of 5 and no vomiting when coughing, but did nt have a great night last night, she did vomit :( but generally slept better then ususal and once i had changed her she fell asleep really quickly. So there is some improvement with her having a inhaler.

First of all    for you luv!

Asthma unfortunately isn't choosey as to who it affects. I have severe asthma and have done since I was Imogen's age, so please please PM me if you need to chat, I'm on MSN too, so I'll PM you my ID.

As long as you keep it under control then she'll be fine. I totally understand what you are going through though, as I dread hearing those words about Mhairi. I'll feel extra guilty coz I'll think she's got it from me genetically (although as this time unproven.....but guilt doesn't listen to medical science!).

i can understand how you feel hun my son was in and out of hospital for the first 5 years with asthma luckily has grown out of it now

i'm sorry imo has asthma hun, massive hugs for you both

I feel uncharacteristically mad at Tommo now and i know I shouldn't because i am just being stupid its his genetics. Its just she's my little girl, my precious baby girl.

I would say that most childhood asthma goes away before adolescence never to rear it's wheezy head again  .

Hugs for you

I wish that were too but we have a big long line of asthmatics in the family so i hope it does but only time will tell.

So sorry mrsT, I do hope it does ease as she gets older, OH had it worse as a child and it eased as he got older  Sending very big hugs to you and Imogen

Oh Hon im really sorry to hear that!! Like Lainey I've had it since a nipper and still do quite badly but when its controlled it is fine...

If you need any advice from me just ask :)

Awwww Mrs-tommo, I know how you feel. My son was in and out of hospital when he was a baby and was constantly on inhalers and nebulisers for his breathing. He was too young too be diagnosed asthmatic at the time and luckily as he got older it seems to have dissappeared touch wood but I still know how worrying it all is.

I also come from a long line of bad asthmatics, myself and my brother were both chronic childhood asthmatics but my brothers has really improved and mine has gone completely. Think positive xx

Alex is asthmatic, he was diagnosed at around 9 months. Although he still gets wheezy now I've noticed a big improvement. He refuses to take his medication and thrashes around so he's not on any of his meds and recently he managed to get through a chest infection with only anti-bs and no steroids or trips to out of hours doctor for nebulising.

Between October and March is normally the worst time because of te changes in temp from indoors to out and all of the bugs and stuff that are around. He was constantly ill with repeated chest infections between Oct last year and March this year, but touch wood he's only had one since Oct this year.

I am sure Imogen will get better over time as well. There is a long line of bad asthma in my family so I was very concerned as well. Any worries feel free to PM me as I've been there hon with Alex :)

Kina x
