:? :?

Had George weighed and measured and his weight has dropped to just below the 98th percentile line. I mentionned to her that he feed for literally 2 minutes during the day and then wants to play.
Her advice was to give him formula :? There was no, I don't know, advice on maybe giving him another feed a couple of minutes later or anything like that, just - give him a top up formula feed and if this trend continues then you might have to consider putting himon formula completely
Am I a bit sensitive or was this a bit of an out-of-order reaction from her?

This is his chart:

and this is his weight plotted on the Kelly Mom chart:

It's not like he is dropping weight drastically.
Argh - she's made me really paranoid that I'm doing something wrong.
I know he's growing well as he's in 9-12 month clothing now and this is his length chart:

Blumming HV's. :(

aww sorry your hv made you feel like that
his weight loss isnt a huge drop at all just ignore her :)
your his mum you no whats best
xx

Bloody ignore her MM, im surprised you didnt tell her to bog off!

The 2nd chart is a bf chart isnt it - so thatd going to be more accurate then a formula chart, your doing fine george is great, ignore her. Dont you dare do tops up of formla - just keep persisting and dont give into foruma because of ehat 'it' said.

Too many mums are forced into formula now, carry on breastfeeding.

Thankyou - the 2nd chart is a bfing one so according to that he is doing fine.
I just feel like this one HV (we have 2 at our clinic) seems to think that because he was and is a big baby that he can't possibly thrive without formula. I know he's doing OK but it's just that the more she mentions it the more I feel like I'm kidding myself that he's doing fine (if that makes sense  )

psssf... my doc was the same...she couldn't believe I'd gotten lil miss to her weight on boob milk alone.... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: He's not really lost weight seems to me like he's lengthing out...growing longer but getting lanky iykwim. Tia was on the 98th centile for height and weight.... and slowly dropped centiles for weight...but the height one remained the same and lil miss has started too...:) If he seems happy and your happy you don't need formula

he seems fine looking at his chart. I would demand they use a breast feeding chart. they do have them, my hv gave me one.

Thats shocking!

I dont know what your midwives were like but i felt under a lot of pressure to breastfeed, and luckily for me we have both taken to it OK but HV's ought to be encouraging perseverence with Bf ing not bringing on the formula at the drop of a hat after all your hard work! Grrrr it makes me mad!
I always have to tell mine I am bf ing too as apparently its not usual in this area, stick to your guns hun, looks like LO is doing fine, your milk does change to adapt to your bubs needs after all....

grr, tell your HV she is a complete tool from me,and that she needs to get educated in regards to the growth of breastfed babies. He is spot on, he's gaining weight adn souds as if he is doing brilliantly (is that a word??). HV's are dangerous creatures.

They are Beanie agree completely!

Some of them seem to have this theroy with breastfed babies, is that, if they drop a few centiles and its the end of the world - and then they push the formula milk theory on you becuase its all about weight gain. Fair enough formula does out weight on. But its no good for george because his tummy has been used to your breastmilk which is made for his needs - formula would probably upset his tummy and upset you too because you were staunch on bf all through your pregnancy.
Next time you see her tell hr you are a exclusive breastfeeder, like it or lump it, and using a formula chart for a breastfed baby is completey inaccurate. and show her your booby chart - which is perfect for him.

I would shove her out the door next time sh mnetions formula.

awww love dont give up your nt failing your son and the drop isnt that much i think theses charts our so stupid

keep trying james step mum told me to give up on breast feeding as i was worried i wasnt making nough for collier and hes not even 3 weeks

perserverance and you'll get back on track love
take no notice i swaer HV and Mw allrun on there own personal belifes rather then a consensus of nhs advice most talk rubbish ive found

you keep going love ignore her

Grrrrrrr - this makes me so mad! If he's happy and healthy and thriving on your breast milk then a formula top-up is NOT necessary. This is madness. I am speechless at a HV suggesting this when you are happy with breastfeeding and how things are going.

My daughter drifts between the 9th and the 25th centile line - she's just under 19lbs at 10.5 months and no-one has ever dared to say that she isn't gaining well - she's happy and healthy, just a bit dainty, I think its cute! My HV is very supportive of BFing though.

Stick to your guns mm - you are doing brilliantly and I'm proud of you.
