The book "50 Easy Party Cakes" by Debbie Bliss is a godsend!!!
Some of the ideas are so simple but so effective even someone who can't bake would get a great result, some are a tad more complicated but so many of them could be adapted for a 1 year old or a 14 year old type thing. She also does a "Saucy Cakes" book but there not appropriate for your LO . I love baking cakes, what does she like? Colours? Charachters? Fairies? I have heaps of books....can scan some pages and email to you later if you like just let me know what types of things she likes. You can do all sorts from a fairy castle (sounds hard but just use a swiss roll for the towers etc!) to an animal, even a wardrobe of clothes, what ever she's into you can design a cake to match her. I've got 4 step kids so the ones I done are older but I've done things from halloween pumpkins and Christmas trees and snowflakes to footballs, cars for 17th's, make up bags, a guitar for the musical one, numbers....oh how exciting your getting to bake a cake!! I'll have to wait till LO is born before I get to do many more fancy ones!! I'm sad though, even made my own wedding cake!!
Hmmm wasn't really sure at first but we bought her a big pink horse soft toy and she loves it. So I think something like horses or unicorns would be nice.
