Just curious

Has anyone experienced or knew someone who had a negative pregnancy test but turned out to be pregnant?

Yes! Picked up at 18 weeks ish - not me but someone I know! She knew she was pregnant - showed on her bloods..eventually lol

I've heard of it but never known anyone personally. It's always someone who knows someone who knew someone!!

I have read this is something that is quite common in women with PCOS? I have never felt like I do now and I am getting BFN's.

I've read of it happening to a few people, a friend of mine didn't find out till she was 7 weeks as not showing up on tests xxx

Well... I didn't get positives on the tests that I took in the days before my period was due, and I took my last one a couple of days after I expected to be bleeding. As a result I assumed my cycles were still off (had only had one in the 6 months since coming off the pill) and didn't think anything else of it.

I then took another test at random about 3 weeks later (now think I must have known subconsciously!) and I was pregnant, and must have been when I took those first tests. However it would have been early (I was approx. 6 weeks when I did find out.) I was also only using internet cheapies, although they were very strong lines when I did eventually get a positive!

I'm 22 weeks as of today :)

I've just been doing some reading on stealth pregnancies and it made me curious how some women do not produce enough HCG and therefore never get a + pregnancy test. I know there is some major controversy surrounding stealth pregnancies especially since the medical field (with presumed good reason) denies it. It does help to know that late + tests can and do happen

I read alot on stealth pregnancy too, its really interesting and some women say they've been pregnant for 4 years! Xxx

It was mind blowing reading that it can last for anywhere between 22 months to 4 years. I can imagine that it would cause a real problem where medical research is concerned, I tried finding some medical papers that were published on it, but wasn't able to. I don't doubt the authenticity of the testimonials of women who have experienced this, it just goes against everything we know about the basic biology of human reproduction. It will also heat up the debate about abortion especially if the fetus at the very early stages (conception) can 'decide' on whether the environment and psychology of the host is suitable to sustaining life. That, I think, will open up a can of worms in itself. The human body and will to survive truly is amazing!

Hey! Not exactly the same but I still find it crazy, my mother was on bc pill and still having monthly withdrawal bleeds when she found out she was 6 months pregnant with me!! The body is a fascinating thing.

Stupid question but what exactly is stealth pregnancy :O

That's when there is little to no HCG present but the woman is pregnant. The fetus also grows slower but is still healthy, it can take much longer than the normal 40 weeks for full development. This usually occurs in women who are under a great deal of stress, like war torn countries, famine ridden countries or when the mother is under incredible stress. These women can also experience bleeding (thinking it's AF) It's not common at all, in fact the medical world does not recognise its possibility. Watch that show 'I didn't know I was pregnant', it's very similar to that

I know you ladies hate these kind of stories but here's mine!
With my first. I was 16. On the pill and fell pregnant.
My mum kept making me take a test because I stopped taking the pill (normal 7 day gap) and my period never came. Negative. Went to the family planning clinic for a pregnancy test. Negative. 2 weeks later period still wasn't here. Went to drs for a test and... Bam... Possitive.
I went for my scan 3 weeks later and I was 12 weeks pregnant!
I was 16, I was withdrawing from the pill and I had no idea I was pregnant except craving fried egg sarnies and no period.
I was very young but am proud of how far Iv come he is 12 now and amazing!
With my second (planned 6 yrs later) I took a test the day before af and got possitive.
