Hi everyone,
I currently get support and employment benefit (used to be incapacity benefit) due to ulcerated colitis, celiac, hypoglycaemia etc (all connected and made worse with very under active thyroide) I have been told that this will stop in November because you only get it for 12 months you only continue on benefit if you have a terminal condition or badly disabled. I asked the lady what would happen after November and if I will get some kind of maternity pay when the baby is born and said I would get nothing but my national insurance will continue to be paid.
I totally understand that there are lots of people who take advantage of benefits but believe me, you do not want me to go into detail about my illness, it would not be possible to be in a work place plus who would employ me when I am pregnant!!
It's looking like we will be on bread and water as from November!!
Any advice anyone!!!!!

Do you not still get your support benefits? It would appear that this is the option after SMP and MA have been considered. You should also get Sure Start I think? xx

Thanks xx
What is Sure Start?? Is that means tested? As my husband works, I do not not get any support benefit just what was my sick pay which ends in November xxxxxx

I hate to say it but if your husband works I am almost certain you won't get anything. When OH and I first met I was suffering from really bad depression, all my benefits stopped, I wasn't entitled to any money from ESA, we just had to cope. You should, depending on his wages get child tax credit and maybe some working tax credit, this isn't a lot though, and we were struggling for a long time. You may get some Housing and council tax benefits which also might help, but we couldn't get more than about £1 a week, and my Oh was on a really low wage back then.

Sorry I can't be more helpful

Can't u apply for disability living allowance? If ur illness is that debilitating, u should be entitled to it! X

If your husband is working and you live together on a low wage you should make a joint claim for tax credits which once LO is born will also entitle you to claim child tax credit as well , they're not a lot of money but do have things like free nhs teatment and glasses ect... the DWP should be your first port of call .good luck xx

Did you only get told this when you went for your meeting? My oh has a meeting next week for it & he Cannt work but iv been worried about what their going to say as we need it :/

Sorry but that's a load of bull.
I've been on Incapacity Benafit for a few years due to my Athritus. If you struggle to look after yourself (have 3 or more bad days a week) then you qualify.

Dispute it hun. I was on IB for 4 years then moved over here and it stopped. We disputed it and took them to tribunal and it was granted in my favour due to all the scans and hospital saying I'll only get worse not better. Been on it again 2 years now.

Take them to tribunal if you have to hun - just make sure you can back everything up with hospital notes etc including all tests you've had done.
