Hi all

Im quite new to this - been ttc now for a year and a half and finally decided to go for initial tests. My hubby has been called back for a 2nd sperm test as first one has come back with zero sperm - feel so numb right now. We both want kids so bad and I suppose we took it for granted that we would be able to have them. Not really sure where to go from here. All my friends seem to be getting pregnant at the moment and I don't know anyone else that is having problems to talk to.

:hugs: so sorry to hear about your SA results, you'll get lots of support here xx

Hiya Jenny, i sure know how that feels :(

No sperms might sound as bad as it gets, but it does open up the possibility of there being a blockage that could be fixed with a bit of tinkering.

You could have TESA or MESA which is basically them extracting the sperm directly from the testicle.

I mean, it would still mean you requiring ICSI (unless they try to open the blockage) but it doesn't mean that no sperm means no baby

Make sure that your hubby is doing the semen analysis at the hospital (and not at home) and hopefully the second one will come back with some positive news.

In the meantime, take a hard look at your husbands lifestyle. Does he smoke? Does he drink alcohol? Does he drink a lot of caffeine? Is he overweight? Does he carry his mobile in his pocket? Does he sit in a warm environment or have hot baths? All these things should be looked into :)

Thanks girls!

LouiseB - yes my hubby has been quite good while we been ttc. He stopped smoking years ago, has been eating healthy and drinking only in moderation. He did have mumps when he was 18 so we were worried this may have contributed to it.

He has been asked to provide a second sample, so we will wait for the next set of results. I have my blood test in a few weeks too to check that im ovulating ok. Once we have our results we will know what we are working with. It really helps to share with everyone on here so thanks for your support x

You know, my brother had mumps at about the same age and he mentioned he was worried about his own fertility... i didn't even know it could have such a huge impact

Apparently his genitals would have swollen and maybe had blood in his pee for it to have any chance of causing damage and even then it is uncommon - so maybe ask your hubby if the mumps caused those problems.

I'm glad he's taking care of himself :)

Just wanted to say good luck with your next round of testing Jenny, the more info they can get you the better, then you really know where you stand and they can start looking at the right set of options for you to go forward... best of luck

Just wanted to say I hope things go well.

My OH had the mumps when he was a child and this left him with a very low sperm count and then I had fertility problems too (not ovulating due to ovary being removed), but 16months on, we are pregnant with a natural conception :)

Miracles can and do happen huni. And as mentioned, there is a whole load of options out there if the results of your OH aren't good, and when I 1st signed onto this lovely site, a woman told me "the cutesy babies take the longest to make", I will never forget that.

Chin up Hun, we are all here to listen and help in any way possible x
