Hi all,

I know this is a slight crossover thread with another posted today but I didn't want to hijack;

My LO (9 months) has suddenly refused to eat any sort of 'meal' and will only eat finger food. Now, grand scheme of things of course, he's eating so I am not worried about him getting food in (although I am never sure how much actually gets eaten as half of it either ends up in his hair, on his clothes, or on the floor.....) but it does mean he's just not getting as much variety as I'd like.

Is this just an 'independence' phase? Self feeding from a spoon seems to hold no interest for him.

I'm not overly worried, just more wondered if anyone else had experienced this or similar?

Thanks :)

xx

We can probably scrap this.... in desperate experimentation I just tipped his shepherd's pie onto the tray table and he is wolfing it down with his hands...... using a spoon seems to be the issue I guess; not the type of food. Thanks!! xx

My daughter uses her hand and a spoon or fork at same time lol. As long as she eats I am happy to let her get on with it lol x

I'm not at the weaning stage yet but I agree so long as they are eating the food I wouldn't mind how they were eating it. Keep offering a spoon/fork make it abailable and they may eventually try to use them.
They will also see you eating with a knife and fork so may eventually copy

Sounds like your lo is naturally adopting a baby led weaning approach. I'm adopting this approach this time in the hope my lo will be a much more rounded eater in the future as my first is very fussy! So no spoons unless he can hold himself and no separate meals - just what he can have of what we are eating. X
