Sorry, I'm sure this topic has been done a million times, but here it is again! :D

My mother is over from the US where it is strange *not* to have a baby shower, and she wants to have one for me. I feel a little funny about it because it isn't as normal here, but at the same time, I really want one! Who here is going to have one? Are you throwing it yourself or is it a "surprise"? What are your plans for it? Are you just having girls over? My friend is into the idea of me having one but she doesn't quite get the original concept and thinks I should have guys too... I would kind of like my husband there, and being in a new city, having boys would boost numbers!

I'm having a 'surprise' baby shower. My friend is organising it and I'm not supposed to know but she wanted to be sure that I was happy with the idea first. I lived in US for a while so it's not so unusual to me and I think that friends generally like to do it. I've been to quite a few over here too. As for having men, I guess it depends on your circle of friends. I don't think that my male friends (or partners/husbands of female friends) would really want to be there I guess that's because most of my female friends have recent babies themselves so the conversation could get a bit graphic. However, I guess if most of your friends are not mothers already, that's not so likely to happen.

Hope that you have a good time whatever you decide to do.

I HAD ONE!
I loved it! I organised it myself too!
My OH was there, as was my brother (he's 15) and my OH's best mate was there too. I had 2 girly mates (the rest were away at uni) and we had a lot of family.

We played some silly games and ate some foood and it was all good :)

OOOOHH and i made a cake :)

I too am having a 'surprise' baby shower, which is now being organised by mum, mum-in-law and two good friends after my friend wouldn't shut up about me having one! From what I gather it's fairly traditional in sense that there will be games/favours/decorations/presents but it's completely untraditional in the sense that men will also be there. My hubby will be in the garden with my bro, dad and dad-in-law doing a BBQ while a few other guys (friends husbands or family) will turn up too. I think they are more interested in the BBQ and beer than the actual baby shower - and we won't be involving them in the games!!!! At the end of the day, as long as you have a good day I don't really see it matters who turns up or what you do - see it as a gathering of friends and family to celebrate your imminent arrival! x
