Just a quick question about baby rice. LO is on Aptamil, but they dont do baby rice. Can I use SMA baby rice with Aptamil formula milk?

Im sure you can mix it with any formula but wait til someone else says too though, we didn't do baby rice but waited to wean at 6 months and did BLW. it was amazing for us but I know it doesnt work for every baby x

Yea it's fine, i did it hun!
XxX

Thanks ladies. I want to try until 6 months and do blw if I can but LO is so hungry through the night that I think I'll have to give him a bit of rice until I can start BLW at 6 months.
We've tried a bottle of hungry milk tonight for his last bottle to see if that'll help him sleep a bit longer at night. x

hope the hungry milk helps? how often and how much milk is little one doing at night? Could it be a growth spurt? good luck... We had a few growth spurts to contend with and held out with the weaning, but I do know BLW doesnt suit all littlies and dont want to preach but it is the most amazing thing we have done with LO, I could rave about it for hours and hours!!!! xx

He's waking every 3-4 hours and having between 5 and 6ozs at every feed at night. This has been going on for a few weeks now so I don't think it's a growth spurt. Normally during a growth spurt he sleeps through. Before he started waking every few hours, he would go to bed at about 8.30pm and not wake until 3am ish but then all of a sudden started waking up about midnight, then between 4 and 5am and then wide awake at 6ish! Its exhausting!
I am not confident that he'sready for weaning which is why I'm trying the hungry baby milk before jumping in feet first with baby rice.
The only problem I have is that we won't know if the hungry baby milk has worked tonight as he's had less than an hours naps today in total (normally he'll have between 3 and 4 hours sleep in total during the day) so is shattered.
If he does sleep a bit longer tonight I'll only give him the hungry baby milk at his last feed as I've heard it can cause constipation.
I really want to do BLW as I've such wonderful things about it and it looks like it's such fun for the baby.

Roo, I cannot sing the praises of BLW enough, I have to bite my tounge a bit as I know its not for all parents and babies but it was so totally amazing watching O learn how to eat on his own. Yes a lot of gagging and hard at times but he munches on everything now and just gets totally stuck in:)

Also some have said that introducing solids doesnt always help the sleeping at night. I guess it is hard if he used to go longer. O only ever went for 3 hours between feeds til about 6 months and was bf with one bottle of expressed milk as a dream feed at 10pm ish.

Good luck and do whatever you feel is right for you guys. xx

hi roo - i'm thinking of doing exactly the same with emma, giving hungry baby only at night so would be interested in seeing how you are getting on?

We gave him hungry milk last night and he went to bed at his usual bedtime of 8.30pm. He cried out at 12.30am but only because he wanted his dummy, again at 1.30 but was fast asleep as soon as his dummy was back in his mouth.
He was making normal 'I want some milk' noises at 2.45am so I fed him but it was more of a dream feed really. He slept until 6.45am, then I bought him into my bed and he slept more until 8.15am!
So all in all it was a much better night.
We're going to try the hungry milk again tonight as he's napped more today than yesterday so we need to see if it was the lack of naps or different milk that helped him to sleep better last night. xx

sounds like progress!! we gave emma hungry milk at 7 and will do again at 10.30. will let you know how she goes, she usually sleeps for 4 hours but she has done 6 so i know she can do it!!!

Hope its worked for you. Jake slept from 8.30pm until 2.20am, drank 5ozs of normal milk and went back to sleep until 7am, then into bed with me and fell asleep again until 9! I feel like a new woman!
