Hi All,

I need some advice plz as I am very stressed. Bcz of low milk supply I have to top up my son with formula some times during the day. I was using apatamil first milk and giving him slow flow bottles. He used to feed on my breast first and then take the bottle. The aptamil caused him constipation so I had to move to Aptamil comfort which does not flow from slow flow bottles so I had to shift to medium flow teats..The drawback is my son has now stopped feeding through breast. I dont know what has happened but he cries every time I offer him breast and takes through the bottle instantly...I am really tensed..and dont know what to do.has anyone faced this before...plz advice..

It may be that your boy has gotten a little too used to the bottle as it's easier for them to get milk from a bottle than it is breast.
I've no personal advice i'm afraid but i'd ask your health visitor for help or speak to a breastfeeding support line.
Good luck xx

hun, iive no real personal advice BUT if u find breastfeeding is not right for your and your lo , dont beat urself up about it... i hope someone on here can advise u a bit better and hope you get it sorted chick xxx

The whole latching on thing really stressed me out and didnt help with the baby blues. I am expressing twice a day, i have stoppped any more than that as it got too much for me. Any advice i could give is don't let it get you down, there are so many babies who are healthy on formula, you are not a failure by stopping breast. Have you tried expressing?

have you tried a nipple shield? it can be a good option for being 'inbetween' breast and bottle, then you can slowly wean him back onto the breast x

I would say he has got too used to the bottle as it's quicker ect.. For every fees try him on the breast for at least 30 mins then go for the bottle you might find he wants bottle less and less and nipple shields are great whn switching they are not great for milk supply but you can express any extra after each feed to increase your milk supply and make sure you drink 2500ml of water a day this is essential as 80-90% of breast milk is water and also lots of green veg increases milk supply and oats - the let down reflex in breast is slower when stresses so try some breathing 7 in 11 out it helps allot and maybe a warm compress on breast to help the let down reflex hope this helps good luck hunni xxxx
