Urghh... someone help me!

I'm trying to find a baby monitor.. I have already bought a Chicco next 2 me crib and keep seeing that a lot of the movement monitors don't work with co-sleepers? I was going to get the angelcare monitor but then read it doesn't work with the next2me? Also looked at the snuzahero but that also says it doesn't work with co-sleepers!

I was in two minds whether I really needed a movement monitor anyway but I know it'll probably put my mind at rest...

Has anyone got a next2me crib and a movement monitor that works, if so what one?

Thank you!

I don't understand why they wouldn't work? That seems strange xx

From what I read it's a couple of things - I think they pick up on your movements as well as the babies if the cribs connected to your bed so unreliable and also the chicco next2me doesn't have a solid base under the mattress to lay the sensor pad on so you'd have to make something for it to sit on so again isn't overly reliable. But was just wondering what other people's opinions were, whether anyone had found away around it or had used one and it worked fine?

xx

We had the next to me with the angelcare sensor mat and it worked fine. My husband cut a board to fit the length of the crib and we placed it on top.

Ah right that makes sense! I've always had the angelcare sensor mat monitor which is great but I've never used a Next to Me crib. But you get the same issue with a lack of a solid base when you use the mat in a Moses basket and I didn't find it a problem I just used a thick piece of cardboard similar to Lollie:) I'm not sure about it picking up your movements but I can see how that would happen, as I know if I walked next to my sons cot with the monitor on but after I'd taken him out of the cot, it would sometimes pick up my footsteps as movement just from standing next to it. I'm sure you can get breathing monitors that clip onto the baby as my friend had twins and was looking into it (no good having a sensor mat if twins are in same cot) but I don't know a lot about them so you'll have to have a google xx

I've just googled 'clip on breathing monitors' and quite a few things come up xx

I personally was a massive worrier with my first baby and I found having a breathing monitor a total godsend, I would never have got a minutes rest without it. I slept so much better knowing I'd be alerted if there was a problem. hated him sleeping in his pram out and about where there was no monitor haha! I suppose it just depends on whether you're naturally a worrier/more anxious or not xx

It worked fine with our next to me when the sides were up. But if used as a co sleeper it can detect your movement too. Xx

Thanks ladies.

Your right Ams, a lot people have said it only makes your nervous-ness worse, like you say when your out and about you start to feel anxious because there's nothing monitoring them.. and my parents can't understand why I need one, I've had the whole 'back in our day...' chat! lol but they are right, they never had anything like the technology they do now and were just fine. I think I will just get the angelcare one and decide whether to use the monitor when the time comes. I think I'd just use it at night so I can try and get some sleep too without worrying xx

I only use my tommee tippee one at night :) and just check on her in the day. It gives a lot of false alarms though.. terrified me at first. Now I think oh here we go again lol. But I still like it on just in case the real thing happened! Its gone off before when I've heard ber breathing!! Zx

Yeah I don't want to become reliant on it, just want to be able to try and get some sleep without worrying!

I just bought the Angel Care one from Argos for £63 which is the cheapest I've seen it, currently in Tesco for £100! It's the one with the temperature on it too which I wanted so I'm happy with that :)

For those who use it with the next2me crib, can't I just place it on the wood board that is under the mattress?? If I cut another piece of wood then it'll be sandwiched between two pieces of wood/ply which wouldn't work would it??

xx

We placed it onto the MDF board my husband cut out, so it wasn't sandwiched between. We ended up getting a sleepyhead to go inside the next to me as our daughter didn't like all the extra space in the crib and loved being cuddled up into something - there is a slot under there that you can place the sensor mat into.

We haven't had issues with it going off but I have forgotten to turn it off once she was out on quite a few occasions! It gave me huge piece of mind as I was able to go to sleep during the night from the second night she was home - the first night you'll just be staring in awe at them! During the day she napped downstairs so we only used it for night times.

Jakob had a movement/breathing sensor but when he started rolling it would alarm making me sprint up the stairs petrofied he wasn't breathing. I've ordered a Neebo for this baby, it's a little band that goes around the wrist. Monitors temperature, sound, oxygen etc I think they've sold out the first lot now as they only made 2000 initially but there is other similar options. To some it may seem OTT but in my opinion things do happen sadly and new technology like this can be a preventative so in my mind it's money well spent :)

Yeah I guess once they start rolling and moving around a lot it won't be ideal but I think it'll stop me worrying so much in the early days.. I may not even use it but I feel better knowing I have it just incase.

Those Neebo bands do look good! They're like baby fit-bits! lol I Don't think my OH would agree to buying one of those though, his a true believer in not needing all these gadgets!

We have a angelcare movement sensor pad input LGs cot. She likes white noise to sleep so we have an app on the iPad and place this in her cot at night. Discovered today that the sensor pad PICKS UP the vibrations from the iPad sound as movement (I picked her up out if her cot and didn't turn the pad off. However it still picked up movement). The pad has given me piece of mind previously but not so much now. We've obviously moved the iPad now but that's very sensitive xx

Have you seen Euan the sheep? Attached to side of cot and plays white noise/heart beat/womb sound/vacuum cleaner! Gently. Won loads of awards, bought one at baby show yesterday :)

Yes we have one but Penny being Penny will wake up as soon as the noise stops!! So the iPad is on continuous. The dream sheep turns off after 20 mins xx

Yep iv heard of others doing this.

I however had the angle care sender but never used it as I didn't feel I needed it. She slept right next to me and I had my hand next to her plus id always be up feeding her so never felt it was needed. She has just gone in her cot in her room so now we use it x
