grrr got a jury summons through today.
Just typical, I have always said I'd like to do it, cos it sounds interesting, then when I have 3 kids and a busy life they sign me up!

Obviously I will defer it for now but I will have to do it next time, as you can only defer once. Will say I can't do it for 6 months, then I'll be stuck with it :( It'll be in Birmingham crown court in the city centre too... what a pain in the ass, I hate the city. :(

Any of you guys ever done it?

my freind got called when her lo was 3 weeks (2 years ago) and she defered and has never heard anything from them since, they did say though that it was only because she was breast feeding, so i presume that if she had been bottle feeding she would have had to do it

No but a friend of mine from work did and she got a really nasty case which upset her loads and she still hasn't quite got over it! I dread ever getting a letter!

I did mine about 3 years ago. It was OK, it was in my uni holidays anyway so didn't have much else on. Mine was a child abuse case where the great-uncle had touched his great-nephew and niece when they stayed over. It was quite horrid actually cos the defence had concocted some case that basically consisted of accusing the kids and their family of makin ght ewhole thing up to get compensation, and it was horrible watching the defence lawyer telling a 10 year old very distressed boy he was lying.

In the end we found the guy guilty of 7 out of 10 charges of abuse and he got 3 years which didn't seem much at all really :?

Apart from that, it was fairly boring and involved a lot of waiting around to be assigned to a case, and then once I was assigned there were loads of technical hitches and delays :bored:
Also the court rooms were all very old and the wooden seats were incredibly hard, narrow and uncomfortable lol, and my stomach kept growling at awkward moments.

3 years? Whats the point then

At least you'll get free lunches or other expenses covered.

Poor u urchin.... Sods law they waited for you tho eh!

im dreading if i ever get called up on jury duty..

If they called me up, coz i say i dont want to be assigned to certain cases?

Due to my past if i was ever up in any sort of sexual offence case, id find them guilty i wouldnt be able to judge the situation coz of my past...

I cant wait to get called up... if i ever do....

Ps. that picture of your kids is lovely!

i deffred mine as it was just when we were relocating over 2 years ago and never heard any thing since :D

I soooo want to do jury service..only cause I'm nosey though :D

I've been called for it but the case was resolved on the morning so never went in to court.

My Dad has done it a few times and on one of the occations it was a nasty drugs thing and all the jury got police escorts out the back as all the druggie mates were waiting at the front  scary!

I did it mostly it was lots of sitting around waiting to see if you would be called, one case I couldn't do because I knew one of the witnesses that was embarrassing having to put my hand up and have some one ask what the problem was but it turned out to be a really long borring case so that was a lucky escape I did two short cases and got a few days and half days off paid when they sent us home cause had nothing for us to do over all I enjoyed it!

Does anyone have to go? how do they get your details?

Anyone over the age of 18 I think it is (maybe it is 21  ) - it's the government that calls you so they have your details off the electoral role, etc

Some of the relatives of the defendant turned up to watch every day and even followed us to the toilet in the break and stood watching when I waited for my dad to pick me up. Fortunately they were a couple of old women so I wasn't too frightened!

Mum mum deferred 18 years ago because she was moving house that day and hasn't heard anything since! She's slightly disappointed as she thinks it'd have been interesting!

Hope you don't get one that's too nasty. I worked in witness care for the crown court/police for a month (temp job) and I still remember some of the case storylines.

If you're a bit stressed out with it lemme know cos I only work round the corner and we could go for a baguette/coffee during your lunch break or something.

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHRRRRRGGGGGGG

I DO NOT believe it!

My letter confirming my deferral just came through, and it has my new date on it!! I thought they would write to me in a few months maybe!

My new date is APRIL 6TH 2009!!

That's Riley's first birthday!!!

:wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

I rang them straight away and I have to write to them and ask if I can bring it forward, the guy seemed to think it would be OK, it bloody well better be!!!!!

hehe you do realise after all this you will turn up and not get selected.
