me and my hubby have deceided we dont want a 3d scan.
we are still unsure if we are gonna find out at 20week scan (6th jan) the sex.

We were talking about 3D scans the other night as my SIL is definitely going to find out the sex and is going to have a 3D scan. However I think we are planning to stay team yellow and someone told me if we didn't want to know the sex it is best not to have a 3D scan xxx

We havent had a 3d scan with any of ours. Was team yellow with paige and jake but found out this time round xx

I really want to have a 3d scan, just because i want to see who roo looks like, I'm impatient :) it will all depend on money when we get that far along. I am unsure wether to find out the sex, but think if I not find out at 20 week scan I would definitely need to know the sex by then. Not got the will power to decline finding out twice :) xx

I don't think we'll have a 3D scan...mainly because we can't afford it! But also because we already know baby's sex and have picked a name so if we find out what he looks like too it's like we won't have any surprises left when he's born! If anything, i'd like to have another 'normal' scan as i think 2 on the NHS isn't all that much. It's a long way to go between 20 and 40 weeks without seeing bubs again and checking all is well. But i doubt we'll be able to afford it so probably just have to be patient xxx

I'm still undecided because would like one and have found some good deals so it is affordable but I'm unsure about subjecting baby to additional ultrasound for no medical reason. Not sure if that is just being paranoid as it is almost certainly safe.

I really want one but DH doesn't like them. And I'm nearly at the end of the optimum time to have one and can't afford it wih Xmas so it's a no for me

do i agree 20-40 weeks is a LONG wait.
i think its alot of money, and it could be spent on the baby instead. dont get me wrong i might have a diffrent idea when i have my 20 week scan. at 12 weeks baby had its legs crossed.lol

cant afford it and tbh i dont think its necessary. if it was free id have one lol

Would have 1 if we could afford it, but no chance of that, so it's a no :(

I want the surprise of knowing what they look like so I'm not having one. I'm also team yellow. Yes it gets frustrating sometimes but I'm so glad I'm doing it this way. But it's everyone's personal choice.xx

I struggle to see the point if Im really honest. You get to see what baby looks like when they come out anyway! :)

definitely not, i have seen both of my babies react to ultrasounds and they are known to be quite uncomfortable for a baby so i see absolutely no need to administer one if it is not for the babies own good which the 12 week and the 20 week definitely are.

Personally I find the 4D/3D scans horrible. The term "Clay baby" sticks in my head and I can't shake it.

Plus I found because I had so many growth scans with my first baby, the normal ones on the NHS. Black and white 2D ones. I could see what he looked like good enough just parts and his profile.

My mum mentioned to me other day that ultrasounds have been told there are bad for babies I was like erm not that I was sure on but I think my grandad is a bit mental and thinks everything gives you cancer. Like I said though I have tonnes of scans with leo and he turned out fine x

I didn't know scans wernt good for the baby.

As far as I know hun they aren't just my grandad is a tech head old fashioned and all. Thinks everything is bad he is random. Don't worry x

i had one with Ava-Mai and it was amazing to see her and we could make out features of mine and hubs she had, like my nose :cloud9:
When she came out she did look totally different though but it was 10 weeks later :)

My MIL has offered to pay for one this time as we have already said our money is going on more important things this time around, (we still lived with my parents when i was having Ava but now we have a mortgage and bills so can't afford it  )
To be honest im not too bothered about having it done with this baby, we got a dvd of Ava's and its lovely to watch every now and again but like i say we just can't afford it so id rather think that way than be disappointed :)

Ultrasound are sound waves that throb through the liquid around the baby, they might 'not' be dangerous but they are certainly uncomfortable for the baby, any midwife will tell you that. Especially the hand held ones because they issue a continious 'noise' rather than the vibrational map type ones they use in the hospital.

thats why they say not to use them for very long, its unknown exactly what the implications on the fetus are but its clear it is not a pleasant experience for them.

We only had one cos my mum's going through an awful time just now (lots of death/dying going on in her side of the family) and DH thought it would nice for her and i to do something a bit more positive. it was a nice experience - and seeing the scan was really different to the nhs ones.

TBH - i dont think i'll be doing it again with any future pregnancies - like i say it was mostly for my mum's benefit (that and dh couldnt think of what to get me for a b'day present) - and i reackon that the money they charge would be better spent on something else.

xxx

Deffo personal preference....we r team yellow and turning out to be quite old fashioned about it all so we didn't want to see the baby before he/she arrived. The wait from 20 week scan to birth is long but I like the full surprise element
