I had read about this and watched it on a programme last night and I know I am a long way off yet but I really like the idea of helping the baby out myself when it is born and lifting it to my chest.

Any mum's done this? :)

No I haven't done it but i would reckon your chances of being able to do it might be a bit slim judging by how knackered you are by the end of it and what position you are likely to be in (sorry don't mean to be a killjoy but i just think it must be quite a difficult feat...)
Good luck tho maybe someone could prove me wrong! Sounds like a lovely idea.......

iv seen a woman on the baby channel do that, she was on her knees, babys head came out and she guided the baby out and held it to her chest with the cord and everythin!!!

quite messy i imagine but very emotional!

the mw who delivered alice asked if i wanted to feel her head.

i think my words where to the effect of "NO! just get her out!!"

I would of loved to do it, seen it on TV when they tell you to grab the baby as it comes out...I had a c setion and didnt get to cuddle her for an hour afterwards, and even hen I was so numb still I couldnt sit up so it was horrid. I didnt get my first real cuddle till the next morning :(

If you get the chance, do it, sounds lovely xxx

Thank you for your replies :D Something to talk to the midwife about I reckon.

I've always wanted to be the first to touch the babys head when its crowning. But knowing me I'll forget to tell the midwife !!!

I didnt guide Thea out but i was the first person to touch her head as she was crowning.

I felt Nathan head as he was crowing and it was really stange. Suppose i could of guided him out if i wanted to but i was to busy pushing :D . Don't know how these women manage it?

This isnt something I would do. Am I the only person that was truely scared that there was a head coming out of their body? I may sound strange, but I had to tell OH and the MW to shut up when they said they could see the head. I had my eyes shut through nearly all of the labour. I was like this both times I gave birth. Maybe im just a bit odd lol

i really wanted either me or paul to help baby out but as he had sticky shoulders we couldnt. i did feel his head as he was crowning( the midwifes insisted and after them pleading for a minute or too i agreed- was really scared i wouldnt feel alot and i wanted it over) i would defo recommend its a really special memory. felt like a velvet cushion really weird

i felt confused, like it wasn't really happening (looking back i recon it was the pethadine)

i can remember the MW saying i was doing it wrong, but i was trying to push the way she was telling me.

when i did it the way that felt 'right' i was doing a fab job.

OH wasn't keen to watch down there (i think he was worried about loadsof blood), but my mum watched alice being born. it was nice, becuase she had 3 c-sections, so it was nice for her to watch alice being born.

the MW asked if we wanted to cut the cord, all three of us said no! the next one i have i think i will.

I wasnt asked if I wanted to feel the head crowning! Not fair!!

Maybe because Zac needed to be born quickly and they used a ventouse so probably couldnt have anyway :(

I would say do a little online research and ask the MW about it too madam bully, I think it's a lovely idea to go into birth with, and I hope you get to decide, maybe more homebirths have done this, worth looking into.

Best Wishes

I know I wouldn't have been able to do anything like, maybe in a few babies time
I did feel the head crowning twice & when the midwife asked if I wanted to feel it again, I said no, just get on with it :rotfl: it made feel sick tbh! It was all very strange a head coming out my froof

My midwife didnt ask me to touch J - she did how ever get Dean to get a mirror - i Saw him buldgin and that just put me right off lol how ever he was born with the next push - i think the phrase "just get him out" applies xx
