This year I am going to get some frogspawn in a little tank in the garden for the kids to look at

I was wondering if anyone had a pond can you let me know when the frogpawn appears as I have no idea timewise when to expect some...apart from in the spring.

Anyone else fancy getting some spawn and we can all post our pics and progress? haha!

if i had it or frogs they wouldnt last 2 mins i am petrified

It should appear anytime from now onwards .

The frish always eat ours :(

answer to have you got a pond? YES
answer to frogspawn? er no ideas sorry!!

I thought you said 'has anyone gota pound' hehe i dont though so youd have no luck getting one heheh  Yeah we have a pond but its not full of frog spawn its full of bricks and grass :(

Anytime now really. Bit before, bit after.

Don't know if you've ever kept them before. I'll chuck in a few tips if anyone is interested or not sure of what they need to do. We have thousands of tadpoles and masses of spawn in a huge pond and often find frogs spawn in deep puddles also. I've spent many years since I was a kid keeping them in the spring

You'll need to have pond weed etc for the tadpoles to feed on once they hatch and also change some of the water a couple of times a week with more stream water. Tap water isn't good for them. I always used to grab a couple of litres of running stream water to freshen up the spawn/tadpoles we kept. Once hatched they will need regular changes to survive. Plus putting in fresh pond weed etc to feed on.

A few largish stones in the bottom of the tank is also good to hold the pond weed down so it does not float on the surface. Also places for the tadpoles to go down to hide in.

Keep out of hot/direct sunlight. A short burst is fine but too much heats the water and could dry out the spawn and later overheat the water for the tadpoles.

Once they grow legs keep less water so they can't jump out the tank and put in a stone they can crawl out onto and get back into the water from. They'll need to be released soon after this usually.

Cool thanks :)

I need to get my tank now, I'm excited! Dunno where I'm gonna get some from though!

Got any neighbours with ponds? If so ask them if they have any frogs spawn and don't want it if they would mind to give you a shout. You don't need masses, say about a mugful. Otherwise you will be overrun with tadpoles

Failing that any public places with ponds? Go fish some out of them.

You might even come across some newts. I found two in the local river amongst some weeds once and kept them for a bit when I was younger :)

Happy hunting :D

We always used to have tadpoles as kids. Not sure Isaac is old enough yet. I once bought some seamonkies but they were crap and I have an ant farm upstairs that I haven't set up yet.

You have to post some pictures, especially when they start sprouting their legs :D

I had a big plan...but it won't work now. My mom's neighbour doesn't live at his house anymore, and he has a nature pond in his garden.
He comes from time to time and I asked my mom to ask him.
She called last night to say he had died!
Random thing to add to the thread I know but I'm a bit  about it, he was only about 50.
Although they have a key I'm not gonna go and steal his tadpoles now!

I bet he would have gladly given Brody and Mason some frogspawn so I would still get some if you are able. It's a way of keeping his nature pond going too :D

I always used to keep frogspawn in a trifle dish on the kitchen bench. I didn't realise it was a hassle with the water and stuff. Nanna must have seen to all that when I wasn't about, cos they always grew into the cutest mini frogs :cheer:

We've got frog and toad spawn at the mo - toad spawn is in strings and frog spawn is in clumps. It's the time of the year where I HAVE to see where I am putting my feet - I'd die if I trod on a frog! UGH Can you imagine!!!

Do you want me to post you some? :rotfl:
Here are last years pics as a taster!
Frogs & toads doing rude stuff!!!

i didnt kno u could even buy frogspawn, apart from caviar, but i thought that was dead? :?

That sentence makes no sense to me at all!

Once the frogspawn has hatched tie little cubes of corned beef with string to a pencil or stick and suspend it over the tank into the water and watch them nibble it. I used to do that when I was little and it kept me amused for hours :D
