Just been for my appointment to meey my consultant and i'm not happy. He told me cos i hav a high BMI, think he said 35.7 i have to go back again at 24 weeks to have GTT and again at 34 weeks to check the babies growth. Didn't have this with Aimee and i was the same weight so i'm a bit fed up. Wouldn't mind but i don't live no where near the hospital i'm booked into and they want me there at 8.30am. :x Don't see how things have changed so much in a year. My previous pregnacys have been fine so why are they doing this now? Anyone else had this?

awww look on it from another point of view, you'll get extra scans...

still a pain tho

I am suprised you need to see a consultant that much. I have a high BMI 36 and I am only seeing the consultant at 25 weeks because of previous c section scar. I was the same weight when I had alice and they didnt seem to do any extra care. As long as the midwife can feel the fundal height that all that matters as baby is growing. Just because people are bigger, they can be so disciminate. Made me feel bad at scan as they put in big writing about my BMI.

Try talking to midwife as they can be good. Ask if you need to see consultant as much as your previous pregnancy was fine.

Hi kellie, whats a GTT? or am i being a bit thick, dont know what my bmi is but cos of my size 5'10" and a size 22/24 mine must be high!! I have to go back regularly cos ive been having probs with my blood pressure and i know many larger ladies can develop pre eclampsia. Think the growth scan later on is to do with just in case your blood pressure plays up as this can make the baby smaller than average, hope this helps in some way, take care, kaye.xxx

l will be seeing a consultant through my pregnancy as l had a caeserean with Charles, who turned 6 months old yesturday! Do you have to see them lots then?

Gtt is gloucose tolarence test (sp). Never had any sugar in my urine so don't know whats that about. I know larger ladies are more prone to diabites but with not having any problems before i can't understand it. I was the exact same weight when i was pg with Aimee whos only 8 months old so whats the difference? I'm 5ft 5 and a size 16 so i'm not massive but i'm heavier than i look. As for the growth check, Aimee was 8lb 11oz and they never had any problems feeling my belly with her. So fed up. Might speak to midwife and see if she thinks i need them cos i don't.

I am overweight too but I don't have to see anyone about it, not that anything has been mentioned yet anyway, and I have been seen quite a lot already, and that has not been thru their choice either! :D And I have a hernia from giving birth last time, and that is just a waiting game to see how I get on with that and the pregnancy, but again, I don't even have to see anyone about that :?

the up side is they are keeping a good eye on you and the babies , i think i would be more upset if i was being ignored or not reassured, all the best xx

I don't mind really it's just the fact that if i had of booked into any other hospital i could have had all these tests done in my local hospital which is like a 1 minute walk but now i have to travel half an hour in the car plus pay the £1.50 parking fee. Sorry i'm just having a moan!
