Hi, I have been avoiding soya for ages because I had a hormonal imbalance but now am craving it. I had tofu last night (Chinese takeaway) and it was delicious. I have been reading that there are fertility benefits, although some people think it's bad. Just wondered if it has helped anyone conceive or if anyone is having it to help fertility? ta x

Hi all,

Just wanted to add that after 3 weeks of eating tofu a couple times a week I've had a heavy AF for first time in ages. Don't know if it's related but am really relieved as they were getting quite light. Just in case that's helpful to anyone else. x

I read to stay away from soy but I'm sure a little but isn't going to harm :)
I used to take soya isoflavones when my cycles were super out of whack..they say it's like the natural clomid ..have you done those before xxx

I didn't know that. Apparently the proper traditional sea water tofu is really good. Does soya help you ovulate then? I've not have clomid. x

Yeah it can do ! When I was try my first I used to have short cycles like 2 weeks long. I tried clomid and didn't even ov on that and then I used to take soy and I ovulated with it.
Do you have normal length cycles though that are regular? My cycles since she was born are 28-32ish days so I'm not risking taking it again as I think I'm oving by myself anyway.. it can mess it up if you already ov xxx

I had to cut it out to get our bfp. I have pcos though, so my hormones are a bit out of whack and I didn't want it interfering with the clomid.

My cycles are a bit uneven - 25 - 29 days but I've been losing weight. I'm coming off the diet now as I am a healthy BMI. I'll try it for a bit. It's turning into a super heavy AF now! But am still pleased as I've had years of light periods. I have been ovulating I think generally but just not getting pregnant.

How can it mess up your cycle?

That might be a good sign It's heavier as maybe lining is thicker? I'm not sure I just read it can do more harm than good if you take it when already ovulating xxxx

I'm not taking it so much as eating it. I read that it actually improves fertility by stopping the adverse effects of BPA(?) which is in tins and plastic food packaging.

I don't know if it's thicker - 2 years ago it was too thick 20mm. My sense was it wasn't emptying enough (sorry if tmi!) - it always felt like it stopped too early. It was also 48 hours tops. Im already at 48 hours now and it's not stopping.

My OH did just point out that I've started eating fruit for the first time in 20 months yesterday (after low carb diet) so it could be the vitamin C which is meant to help blood flow.

I'll keep an eye on things and just have a bit and see if it has an effect. I'm a bit more wary after reading all your comments.

Here's an article. https://www.glamour.com/story/soy-may-boost-fertility

Oh yeah normal soy in food I guess will have a fairly small affect. It 's just slha isoflavones they say can make things worse you already ovulate but I took them as supplements xxx

Article is interesting! I could do with some tofu lol I'm always drinking out plastic water bottles!! x

Yeah, I have salad from plastic salad bags everyday. Miso soup is a healthy soy option too, although I love tofu! x
